I couldn't agree more with your last sentence. Where we differ is you think we throw deep too much.

Let's not forget I was the one saying we'll win the Super Bowl without running the ball. I got a lot of flack for it, but I was right. You don't need to run the ball to win nowadays.

Our type of O doesn't need good TEs. We did fine when Finley went down. We run enough routes that the Tampa 2 can't cover our WRs. We're not a WCO team. In 2007, we were. In 2010, we weren't.

Every QB benefits from yards after catch. It's not just a a Packers thing.

As for running the ball, Starks and Green are gonna be ALOT more fun to watch. I'll say that much. LOL. Think it might help us in rough weather games too. We can beat anyone in a dome. But in the mud or snow? We might not "need" a running game per se, but it sure would be nice.

In today's NFL, with all the equipment they have to keep the players and balls warm and maintain the field weather has become less and less of a factor. This isn't the 1960s.

In fact, I looked at the outdoor stats for Rodgers from the last weekend of October through the end of the playoffs to see what his stats looked like when the weather should start to turn bad (I chose this point specifically to include the Jets game which was unusually windy). This is what I found:

QB Rating: 105.8
Avg Yards: 259.1
Avg TDs: 2.0
Avg Ints: 0.4

And here is what his season including playoff numbers look like:

QB Rating: 111.5
Avg Yards: 264.0
Avg TDs: 1.9
Avg Ints: 0.7

The stats are almost identical.

Oh, and you say we we're more of a dome team but we were 11-4 (.733) outdoor last year and 3-2 (.600) in a dome. We can win in any set of conditions.

The bottom line is there is very little evidence to suggest our passing offense can't operate in poor conditions, despite all the concerns repeated endlessly by ESPN and NFL Network.

As a QB, the weather doesn't bother you that much. You quickly learn tricks to grip the ball better. The only element of nature that pisses a QB off would be wind.

Snow, no problem.
Rain, no problem.
Wind, FUCK YOU! Unless you have a rocket arm or can adjust well to it, it's a bitch.

Imagine how much more Rodgers would benefit from YAC if Finley was healthy for an entire season...

Every time I see the abbreviation YAC, I think of this short.

I think the article is kind of flawed in that it discusses average YAC instead of total YAC. Jones and Nelson both ranked high, but they were not starters and didn't catch as many passes as most starting receivers. This seemed like another quickie article that didn't make an honest attempt at analysis.

The WCO is fading away. Like any offensive change, they'll eventually be a defensive scheme to break it. We incorporate some elements of the WCO but we are no longer a WCO team. I'm glad. This isn't the 80s any more.

The stacked sets that we have seen become popular the last couple years with heavy motion are direct evolutions of the theory of "stretching" the defense not just vertically but horizontally as much as possible.. the backbone of the west coast roots of Walsh.
