PFT

Though its not a verified account, its being followed by other Steelers, including safety Troy Polamalu, center Maurkice Pouncey. Also, Mendenhalls account attracted attention in March, when he supported Vikings running back Adrian Petersons comparison of pro football to slavery.

This time around, Mendenhall is offering opinions regarding the death of Osama bin Laden, and questioning whether the planes that hit the World Trade Center caused the collapse of the twin towers.

Well never know what really happened, Mendenhall said. I just have a hard time believing a plane could take a skyscraper down demolition style.
Mendenhall also expresses sympathy for bin Laden. What kind of person celebrates death? Mendenhall says. Its amazing how people can HATE a man they have never even heard speak. Weve only heard one side. But what would the other side have been? Bin Laden admits to masterminding and funding the plot; he has bragged about it. Hes not entitled to the presumption of innocence after admitting guilt.

We fully believe in free speech. Mendenhall has the right to say whatever he wants. But others also have the right to react to what he says. And given that he plays for a team headquartered near the location of the crash of United 93 and that the Steelers will be playing on the 10th anniversary of 9/11 in Baltimore, not all that far from where another plane crashed into the Pentagon, weve got a feeling that more than a few folks will be exercising their free speech rights when Mendenhall comes out onto the field.

UPDATE: Actually, it is a verified account. Well, there goes any chance he had of coming up with an excuse. Unless he plans to claim someone hacked into his account.

I think there's some truth to what he's saying about taking joy in someone's death but still, yikes!

Perhaps I was naive, still am, in believing the scientists who explained to me via History Channel how said planes took down such large skyscrapers.

When Geraldo was taking over my TV Sunday evening saying he believes Osama bin Laden is dead and the President is going to tell us as much in the next hour... I remember thinking, sure, I'm glad this bin Laden fella is no longer breathing, but gosh Geraldo, why are you so giddy like a girl putting on her new prom dress?

I don't and won't "cheer" his death, but I will celebrate for those who lost loved ones in their feeling of justice has been served.

exactly, it's a fine line. No doubt Bin Laden is a complete POS and he deserved justice for the thousands of civilian and military lives lost/sacrificed due to him. At the same time, it's disrespectful to celebrate the death of another human, regardless of who they are.

I'm not catholic, but the Pope said something vaguely to this effect on Monday.

Also, apparently Rashard is a consiparcy theorist!

Rashard is a tool. He was when he played at IL. He still is. I care very little what his opinion is on any matter. If Rashard bothered to watch any of the dozens of shows that have explained in minute detail just what can happen when you ignite all that aviation fuel he wouldn't look so foolish today. Of course he would have to believe all these engineers and architects actually know what they are talking about when they point out the design flaw in that kind of a structure. I don't think he does.
I am glad they caught OBL. I am glad he is gone. I also realize that the joy people are expressing over his death is going to be short lived and will not solve any of their problems.

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.

I hope he meant that the "killing of another human" instead of "death of another human", because I have my own examples in my life where death was celebrated and for good reason.

This was my sister's status on Facebook immediately after hearing the news:

"I've never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure." - Mark Twain

I couldn't have said it better myself.

I definitely respect Mendenhall's opinion here. Even the part about questioning whether 9/11 was really Bin Laden. However I think his timing on this was extremely poor. He could have expressed his views a lot better as well.

I still believe the towers weren't done by Bin Laden because if you actually watch you see explosions going off on the floors below and is set up like a perfect demolition.

It actually bothered me also that they were making this such a big deal and celebrating. We assassinated a living person and we celebrate but yet if me or you would have done it we would have been put up on trial. I just think its funny that it happened what like 5 years to the date of Bushs speech? It took from last August to the other day to finally get a shot at him. I see it all as a campaign boost for Obama.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)
