Ok, I'll start off by saying that I know this has been talked about before, but I'm going to give my take.

I think McCarthy is a decent head coach, but doesn't have what it takes to get us to the promised land. The Packers have talent on their roster and that is what is carrying the team in spite of McCarthy. I can't remember one ballsy coaching decision that changed the outcome or momentum of the game.

However, I can remember numerous times where I shook my head saying,"WTF was he thinking." The end of the Bears game is the perfect example. Not letting the Bears score and allowing the Bears to run time off the clock. I don't think too many here support that call.

He can't win the big game. We lost twice last year to the Vikes. We embarrass the Cardinals in a meaningless game, then give up 50 the following week against the same team in a game that matters. We lose to the Bears in a game we could/should have won and take a commanding lead in the division. Time after time, we come out flat and make games closer than they need to be. The team seems to be missing the killer instinct. Score that TD that will seal the game instead of trying to run out the clock to hold on.

The penalties, my god, the penalties. I'm hoping last week was an exception this year, but after leading the league last year I have to put this on the list. Today's game against the Lions is a good sign that the penalty situation is under control.

Why the hell can't we find players to make plays on special teams? Why the hell can't we find a coach to make players make plays on special teams? I know coaches can only do so much then its up to the players, but lots of other teams have found people to be at least average on special teams. I'm sure the right people, whether it be coaches, or players we need to find these guys.

I'm sure some will come up with specific examples where my theory is off, like beating the Bills handily, or going into Philly and getting a win (both of which gave me hope about this year being different). But after watching the last two games, the same old tendencies are showing thru.

With all the talent on this team, Rodgers, Driver, Jennings, Finley, Matthews, Raji, Woodson the players can carry the team to wins against bad teams. These same players need the coaches to coach the rest of the team to win the big games...games against the Vikings, Bears, Jets, Patriots, Cowboys, Falcons, and Giants.

If this team doesn't make it deep in the playoffs, you will hear me screaming for heads all the way from SE Wisconsin.

Well the play that I think about when you say he doesn't make gutsy calls is the onside kick against the Cardinals in the playoffs.

And yes I do believe he can take us to promise land. I hate how some fans blame everything on McCarthy when it's really not his fault. And I really don't think he's a bad play caller. I love how he has developed Rodgers, and he and Rodgers seem like they're on the same page, which is great to have. I don't want us to lose McCarthy because that would almost be comparable to losing Rodgers himself IMO.

I don't think you'll be the only one out for blood if the team falls apart down the stretch.

What bothers me the most is that under Mike, the team just plays lip service to the run game. If Green Bay had at least an average running game combined with Rodgers and Co., they'd be damn unstoppable. But no, there's no commitment to the run, no creativity by Mike to try something new on the run game, nothing. And it's not just this year, it's been like that since he's been the coach of the Green 'n Gold.

Pisses me off to no end. Yes, this is a passing league. But you have to have at least an average run game to have some sort of success.

Right now, I have to admit the future is cloudy for McCarthy. And I guess by extension, Thompson.

The knock on every coach is that he doesn't have what it takes to win a championship--until he actually wins one. Meanwhile, the number of Super Bowl winning coaches who have been hired by other teams and then won another Super Bowl remains at zero. And there have been plenty of them.

As for winning big games, I hear that knock against a lot of coaches too. Unless they win a championship, there is no end to that kind of talk, because people just keep redefining the meaning of "big game." If you do that, you can ignore games like the season-opening wins against the Vikings in '08 and the Bears in '09, or last year's wins against the Cowboys and Ravens. Or the playoff win against Seattle in January '08. There are several others I could mention.

Going into last season, McCarthy's track record was very similar to Sean Payton's, then Payton won a Super Bowl. We don't know if McCarthy can do that, but unless the Packers have a really disappointing season, he's earned the right to coach the team for at least one more year. In the end, the win-loss record will tell the tale, especially the playoff record.

Yea I agree with Greg that people ignore the big games that we DO win. Then those same people complain about the ones we lose.

It's not right.

Oh, and every single one of these offenses was TOP 5 IN POINTS.

Sheesh. Some coaches get no respect.

I think we were in a spot to get to the SB in 07, were we not?

And Mike was coach then was he not?

In 08 I think was a off year

Last year we made the playoff, but few freak things and we lost

He can get us there

Didn't it take Dungy 8-10 years to get to the Super Bowl? Wasn't there about 11 years between Super Bowl appearances for Cowher (only winning the second one)? Let's give the man some more time.

Martha Careful (5h) : 1. this is true of all our linemen. 2. His run block is fine. 3. If all OL played like he has, we would win SB.
beast (6h) : Meyers pass blocking is really good, his run blocking is really not.
Zero2Cool (22h) : Packers have claimed DE Spencer Waege off of waivers from the 49ers and waived DT Rodney Mathews.
Zero2Cool (23h) : And the OL protections seem to be good.
Zero2Cool (23h) : I really don't know lol. I don't see him getting blown up.
Zero2Cool (23h) : -3 buwahhhahaaha
Mucky Tundra (23h) : 4th
Zero2Cool (9-May) : because he's 1st
Mucky Tundra (9-May) : Myers isn't even the 3rd best C on the roster atm
Martha Careful (9-May) : I am not sure I understand the Myers hate. He was consistently our third best lineman. RG and LT were worse.
beast (9-May) : Just saying I don't think moving Myers would help Myers.
beast (9-May) : Center is usually considered the easiest position physically if you can handle the snap stuff.
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : Bust it is then
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Context. Sounds like Myers won't be cross-trained. C or bust.
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : @BookOfEli_NFL Packers pass game coordinator, Jason Vrable said that Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks shared a placed in Florida while train
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : For now...
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers go about evaluating their "best five," OL coach Luke Butkus makes on thing clear: "Josh Myers is our center."
beast (8-May) : Though I'm a bit surprised letting go of CBs, I thought we needed more not less
beast (8-May) : It was confusing with two DB Anthony Johnson anyways
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers actually had Ray Lewis on the phone.
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers wanted to draft Ray Lewis. Ravens stole him.
Martha Careful (6-May) : Happy 93rd Birthday to the Greatest Baseball Player of All-Time...Willie Mays
Zero2Cool (6-May) : Walter Stanely's son
buckeyepackfan (6-May) : and released CB Anthony Johnson and DL Deandre Johnson and waived/injured WR Thyrick Pitts (thigh-rick).
buckeyepackfan (6-May) : The Green Bay Packers have signed WR Julian Hicks, OL Lecitus Smith (luh-SEET-us) and WR Dimitri Stanley
Zero2Cool (6-May) : Petty, but it's annoying me how the NFL is making the schedule release an event.
Mucky Tundra (4-May) : @mattschneidman Matt LaFleur on how he tore his pec: “Got in a fight with the bench press. I lost.”
Zero2Cool (3-May) : Jordan Love CAN sign an extension as of today. Might tak weeks/months though
TheKanataThrilla (3-May) : Packers decline 5th year option for Stokes
Mucky Tundra (3-May) : @ProFootballTalk Jaylen Warren: Steelers' special teams coach has discussed Justin Fields returning kicks.
Zero2Cool (2-May) : Season officially ending tonight for Bucks ... sad face
Zero2Cool (2-May) : Giannis Antetokounmpo is listed as out for tonight's game.
dfosterf (2-May) : Surprisingly low initially is my guess cap wise, but gonna pay the piper after that
dfosterf (2-May) : The number on Love is going to be brutal.
Zero2Cool (2-May) : May 3rd. Extension day for Jordan Love. (soonest)
Zero2Cool (1-May) : USFL MVP QB Alex McGough moved to WR. So that's why no WR drafted!
earthquake (1-May) : Packers draft starters at safety ever few years. Collins, Clinton-Dix, Savage
beast (1-May) : Why can't the rookies be a day 1 starter? Especially when we grabbed 3 of them at the position
dfosterf (1-May) : Not going to be shocked if Gilmore goes to the Lions.
dfosterf (1-May) : I hear you dhazer, but my guess would be Gilmore Colts and Howard Vikings from what little has been reported.
Mucky Tundra (30-Apr) : S learn from McKinney who learns from Hafley who learns from the fans. Guaranteed Super Bowl
Zero2Cool (30-Apr) : could*
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : Safeties should learn from Xavier.
dhazer (29-Apr) : And what about grabbing a Gilmore or Howard at CB ? Those are all Free Agents left
dhazer (29-Apr) : out of curiosity do they try and sign Simmons or Hyde to let these young safeties learn from, they can't be day 1 starters.
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : I miss having Sam Shields.
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : Not that he's making excuses, just pointing it out
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : That's for dang sure. Make our erratic kicker have no excuse!
packerfanoutwest (28-Apr) : having a great long snapper is gold
Zero2Cool (28-Apr) : LaFleur looking like he had some weight. Coachin will do that lol
