The only stat that matters on defense is Points Per Game and turnovers created.

Except if you are in gameday chat often enough you know that for a lot of folks style points are awarded, so all stats matter. Also, when trying to explain how a team has a certain points per game rank, the other stats can help diagnose and tell the story. So all in all they matter to me when trying to make any sort of argument.

As has already been stated, points per game allowed is the main stat to me.

Week three is way too soon to be talking about stats like this.

I disagree. I like it and hope he continues the effort. It doesn't hurt anyone and gives us all something else to discuss.

To look at rankings right now is fruitless less maybe for talking points but....really not. We are ranked 28th in rushing D because a QB gained over 100 yards against us. I dare to say that in the six games in our division Favre, Cutler, and, Stafford won't gain a combined 100 yards in those 6 games.

The body of work just isn't there yet for these rankings to say anything. Some teams haven't even played a home game yet and some may have drawn a couple of teams very strong in a given area. We haven't seen very strong passing QB's yet so those numbers don't mean much at this point either.

I'm not saying don't put them up but to draw anything of substance from them it's just far to early for that.

I said this in response to Zero pointing this stat out in another thread but I'll add.

As someone already said Vick had 103 yards rushing against us. That is not so much on the run defense as just Vick's ability to make something happen with his feet when the pocket collapses.

The Bills had 124 rushing yards against us. But they ran the ball 32 times despite being behind the entire game. They only averaged 3.875 yards a carry.

Finally, the one time this year we needed to step up as a run defense they did. On 4th and 1 the Eagles tried to run with Vick and we absolutely stuffed it.

No, I am not worried about our run defense. At the end of the year we will probably finish in the top 5 in run defense, or at the very least top 10.

Considering through Week 2, all NFC North quarterbacks (including Rodgers) have rushed for only 66 combined yards, I think that's a good bet. 😉

Whether it was 100 yards or 300 by a QB, fact is, it was rushed on our defense. Stop making excuses.

Saying there isn't enough body of work is about as smooth thinking you're the first one to say ... "Hey, grass... its GREEN!"

Again, its a topic of discussion, if ya don't like it, skip over it and move on with your merry day.

You don't have to get pissy about an observation.

Read the responses just above yours and it's fairly easy to see that it's not hard to dissect numbers after two games. Philly is ranked dead last in scoring D. Anybody think after a fair number of games that this will be the case?

The 'body of work" reference simply refers to the lack of data in the stats after two games.

Sorry, I thought this thing was all about people with good sense that have some football knowledge and don't blindly look at something without diving into it deeper.

Our run D sucks. We're ranked 28th. It's probably over for us.

I'm not pissy at all. I just think it's rude to knock a guys effort simply because you (and most) feel its too early to be discussing playoffs.

He doesn't do the work and research because he thinks since we're leading our division in week three, that it's a lock we'll win. He does it to see how things progress from week to week.

I'm not sure why anyones bent out of shape on this or feeling the need to be a dick.

We ALL know and understand no team gets into the playoffs this early in the season.

I would imagine after our 4 - 4 start last season, then finishing up 11 - 5 would be enough evidence for ANY Packers fan to not get too excited, or too down on where we are sitting rank wise at this point.

This thread is just an informal piece, nothing much more than that. He's not saying "HEY LOOK WERE A LOCK FOR THE PLAYOFFS CHECK IT OUT"....

Less over reacting.
More appreciation of others efforts.

Zero2Cool (1h) : $170 guaranteed. This might impact Jordan Love
Zero2Cool (1h) : Lions are signing QB Jared Goff to a four-year, $212 million extension
Zero2Cool (5h) : I know we moved on. That tidbit just makes me a touch happier.
Zero2Cool (5h) : Sources spoke of many, many times last summer where Hackett called a play, then Rodgers changed it completely at the line
Martha Careful (10-May) : 1. this is true of all our linemen. 2. His run block is fine. 3. If all OL played like he has, we would win SB.
beast (10-May) : Meyers pass blocking is really good, his run blocking is really not.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : Packers have claimed DE Spencer Waege off of waivers from the 49ers and waived DT Rodney Mathews.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : And the OL protections seem to be good.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : I really don't know lol. I don't see him getting blown up.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : -3 buwahhhahaaha
Mucky Tundra (9-May) : 4th
Zero2Cool (9-May) : because he's 1st
Mucky Tundra (9-May) : Myers isn't even the 3rd best C on the roster atm
Martha Careful (9-May) : I am not sure I understand the Myers hate. He was consistently our third best lineman. RG and LT were worse.
beast (9-May) : Just saying I don't think moving Myers would help Myers.
beast (9-May) : Center is usually considered the easiest position physically if you can handle the snap stuff.
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : Bust it is then
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Context. Sounds like Myers won't be cross-trained. C or bust.
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : @BookOfEli_NFL Packers pass game coordinator, Jason Vrable said that Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks shared a placed in Florida while train
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : For now...
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers go about evaluating their "best five," OL coach Luke Butkus makes on thing clear: "Josh Myers is our center."
beast (8-May) : Though I'm a bit surprised letting go of CBs, I thought we needed more not less
beast (8-May) : It was confusing with two DB Anthony Johnson anyways
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers actually had Ray Lewis on the phone.
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers wanted to draft Ray Lewis. Ravens stole him.
Martha Careful (6-May) : Happy 93rd Birthday to the Greatest Baseball Player of All-Time...Willie Mays
Zero2Cool (6-May) : Walter Stanely's son
buckeyepackfan (6-May) : and released CB Anthony Johnson and DL Deandre Johnson and waived/injured WR Thyrick Pitts (thigh-rick).
buckeyepackfan (6-May) : The Green Bay Packers have signed WR Julian Hicks, OL Lecitus Smith (luh-SEET-us) and WR Dimitri Stanley
Zero2Cool (6-May) : Petty, but it's annoying me how the NFL is making the schedule release an event.
Mucky Tundra (4-May) : @mattschneidman Matt LaFleur on how he tore his pec: “Got in a fight with the bench press. I lost.”
Zero2Cool (3-May) : Jordan Love CAN sign an extension as of today. Might tak weeks/months though
TheKanataThrilla (3-May) : Packers decline 5th year option for Stokes
Mucky Tundra (3-May) : @ProFootballTalk Jaylen Warren: Steelers' special teams coach has discussed Justin Fields returning kicks.
Zero2Cool (2-May) : Season officially ending tonight for Bucks ... sad face
Zero2Cool (2-May) : Giannis Antetokounmpo is listed as out for tonight's game.
dfosterf (2-May) : Surprisingly low initially is my guess cap wise, but gonna pay the piper after that
dfosterf (2-May) : The number on Love is going to be brutal.
Zero2Cool (2-May) : May 3rd. Extension day for Jordan Love. (soonest)
Zero2Cool (1-May) : USFL MVP QB Alex McGough moved to WR. So that's why no WR drafted!
earthquake (1-May) : Packers draft starters at safety ever few years. Collins, Clinton-Dix, Savage
beast (1-May) : Why can't the rookies be a day 1 starter? Especially when we grabbed 3 of them at the position
dfosterf (1-May) : Not going to be shocked if Gilmore goes to the Lions.
dfosterf (1-May) : I hear you dhazer, but my guess would be Gilmore Colts and Howard Vikings from what little has been reported.
Mucky Tundra (30-Apr) : S learn from McKinney who learns from Hafley who learns from the fans. Guaranteed Super Bowl
Zero2Cool (30-Apr) : could*
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : Safeties should learn from Xavier.
dhazer (29-Apr) : And what about grabbing a Gilmore or Howard at CB ? Those are all Free Agents left
dhazer (29-Apr) : out of curiosity do they try and sign Simmons or Hyde to let these young safeties learn from, they can't be day 1 starters.
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : I miss having Sam Shields.
