Some CBA stuff for those interested:

The final four teams shall not be permitted to negotiate and sign any unrestricted free agent to a player contract except for players who acquired their status by being cut or were on the final four team when their contract expired. Playoff teams five thru eight get a break to sign one player with a salary of $4,925,000 or more and any number of players with a first-year salary of no more than $3,275,000 and an annual increase of no more than 30 percent in the following years.

Some more CBA stuff for those interested:

Teams will have three tags to use to restrict free agents. Currently, a team can use either a franchise tag (average of the top five salaries at a position) or a transition tag (average of the top ten salaries at a position) on any one player on the club to protect the team from losing the unrestricted free agent. If the NFL has an uncapped year in 2010, teams will have use of one franchise tag and two transition tags. So the top three players who are eligible for free agency on a roster can be protected.

In 2009, the figure for franchising a LB was $8.3 million. I agree with Porky's evaluation of Kampy in this system, but even if you don't, you have to ask yourself if Kampy is worth that kind of money - especially given the other guys on the team who are hitting free agency or are due for a new deal.

thread changed direction and turned into whether or not kampman will be back.

We really had no solution for AZ's offense. So I really think we need kampman on this team. I'd like to see how teams handle kampman and Matthews rushing the QB.

Other than the plays where Fitzgerald knocked Woodson down before catching a pass, Arizona out-schemed us and Capers had no answer. You could tell. Two DBs would drop to a receiver and the ball would go to the open guy. The middle of the field was wide open. They came in with the same defensive plan as the week before, too, which really doesn't sit well with me.

This was exactly the type of game where I would have liked to see press man coverage after the first few series, to knock their rhythm offense off a little bit. With Al Harris healthy we very well may have seen it.

What I have been saying all year. Give Kampman's money to Collins and Pickett, they fit our scheme and are not injured.

I think the problem will be the money. We have a significant number of players that you would have to consider a priority and Kampman may get lost in the numbers. We may could hold onto Clifton because I cannot see anybody signing him to the kind of money he got this year so with a reduction there he might be possible.

Still, those two's salaries amounted to $14 million this year which will cover much of the increased salaries they have to deal with. I don't think anyone can argue that Jolly and Pickett and Collins are more essential than paying Kampman what it's going to take to keep him around.

We are simply in a year where you can't keep them all so some tough decisions will have to be made.
