I disagree with Demovsky on his opinion here.. IMO I believe it was the correct call to go for two points for a couple of different reasons.

First.. 5 or 6 points means two field goals... or two possessions if we are looking at field goals. Having a six point lead gives you very little other than the tie on two field goals..

Lets say the Bears score a TD.. a Field goal wins it at 5 or 6.

If the Bears put up a TD and FG.. we are two TD's down either with the 5 or the 6.. well a two point conversion I guess gives you a chance.

To me.. being up 7 verses 6 was worth the risk.

Second.. it is the more aggressive of the two calls.. as noted in another thread, we seem to come out passive in the third quarter.. this shows a little aggression.

Thumbs down

Mike McCarthy got away with it because he was playing the inept Bears, but his decision to go for the 2-point conversion with 12:39 left in the game was a mistake.

Maybe he did it because he was playing the offensively challenged Bears, but going for the 2-point play with that much time remaining is too early. There are too many possessions left in the game to know how much that sure-thing PAT might mean.

Sure, the Packers succeeded on the 2-point play and took a 21-14 lead after Ryan Grants 1-yard touchdown run put them ahead 19-14, but thats not that point. What if they didnt get it?

Had the 2-point try failed, the Packers would have put themselves in position to lose without giving up a touchdown. Kick the extra point, and two field goals cant beat you in regulation.

Chicago had three possessions after Grants touchdown. The Bears reached Packers territory on the first one and had that drive resulted in a field goal, they would have trailed just 19-17 when Crosby missed wide right from 42 yards with 6:05 to play. The Bears then would have had two cracks at winning the game with a field goal.

I think that you have to factor in how the game was going, as well.

We couldn't get anywhere in the last part of the game. The TD came off an interception which gave us the ball at their 11. Besides that 2 play, 11 yard drive, we pretty much couldn't muster up anything.

The Bears, on the other hand, had some good drives going, ending with some bad luck. Except for the last one.

Going up by 6 wouldn't help us a whole lot. We couldn't move the ball and our defense couldn't stop them very well in the 3rd quarter. I'd prefer to take anything you can out of that TD, as well.

I think it was a smart move. Up by 5 or 6, if the Bears get another TD (and in all likelihood score the XP) we lose. It was a good way to make sure the game stayed in our hands.

I think if you have the opportunity to go ahead by 7 with a 2 point conversion, you always go for it, regardless of how much time is left.

It was the right call. The guy's smoking crack.

If we didn't get it, we're up by 5 points instead of six. Whooptie-do. If da Bears actually scored a TD, we'd be in trouble.

If we would have lost because we didn't convert then it was a mistake.

We converted the 2 to go up by 7 and won by 7 so it was the right call.
Personally I thought he was crazy at the time.

I don't see why you WOULDN'T go for 2.....It was in the 4th quarter and the offense wasn't getting anything done. I like the decision.

personally I thought Crosby should have hit a f'n 43 yard field goal and much of this would have become a moot point!

Needed that jab, but I do agree with the 2pt...You can assume about 3 more possessions for the bears...if you think you can hold them to FGs on those drives, it makes sense. Mike McCarthy has had his bone head moves this year, but I don't see this as one of them. Demovsky just has a bone to pick.

obviously the right call...how could you even question it? first of all it worked perfectly, second of all if we either go for one or miss the two point conversion we still lose if they score a touchdown regardless.

If he hadn't went for it the writer would of wrote: He should of went for it because if the Bears scored a TD it would be 21-19.
