Wait, I thought this type of thing didn't help motivate players..

Haley tore into Bowe early in Sunday's win over the Redskins, urging Bowe to pick up his game and threatening to trade Bowe if he didn't.

Play better to stay on a team that's not good or play bad to get traded to a team that might be needing a WR, like Chicago? Yeah.

Playing against the Redskins makes lots of players look good. Remember, the Lions beat them.

Sorry, bad example for a motivation bit. Find Rex Ryan comments, that's the ticket!

Point is, players respond to being challenged and held accountable.. most players have built in pride in themselves, well at least the player you want on your team.

Pride? I'd have tanked it so I could get traded to the Packers! :)

Our coaches can't challenge the players. They're afraid of confrontation. At least, that's how it seems to me. When Mike McCarthy came in, I thought he was a no non sense guy. Turns out, he's full of non sense.

Well......who knows how Mike McCarthy is behind closed doors. Just because we don't see him chewing out guys in front of us doesn't mean he isn't doing it.

My belief is, he doesn't want to start calling guys out in public.
Of course i don't KNOW it for sure, but i bet thats how it is.

I don't either... behind closed doors, but what I do know is that his "clean it up" words are doing little to solve the problem.

That, " We need to address" it isn't working..

Start yanking playing time or roles away from guys that aren't performing.. I would be fine with that.

Or chew they ass on the sideline, sending a clear message to the other 52..

Anything but make an excuse like.. "He hasn't been out there for a while."

Players have indicated they have gotten chewed out.

Privately is not being appreciated, that's being shown by the continue lack of focus and discpline on the field.

Publicly, give it a shot. He called out our former QB in the public eye a few years ago, by saying "our qb needs to make better decisions" or something like that.

I have been thinking.. scary I know.

Maybe I have to adjust my expectations of this club.. I had such high hopes for this season that I refuse to allow it to just take its course.

We are who we are... it worked for the late 70's and 80's for me.. I wonder if I can return to that mode.

Any win is reason to celebrate.

The "Has been out awhile" statement is not even a quote. It's something that the journalist added, paraphrasing McCarthy. I'll give McCarthy the benefit of the doubt, since we don't have the complete context of his statements.

I agree with evad04 that we don't gain much by analyzing McCarthy's comments in press conferences. The continued poor play of the O-line, however, is very real and is cause for great concern. I think we can all agree on that.

(What do you think happened with Chad on the false starts and the one play he was late coming off the ball?)
I haven't spoken to him personally about it, so I can't really answer that. They're pre-snap penalties. He's played a lot of football here. He was cheating the line of scrimmage in pass situations and got himself in trouble on the illegal formations. Was it close? Yeah, I'm sure it was close. The film showed it. But you can't have four pre-snap penalties. He's been out for a couple of weeks, and hopefully he'll learn from this. I couldn't answer your question. I haven't talked to him specifically.

That's the closest I can remember.
