we were nearly always left on the long field and giving the opponent the short field last year. But yes only up from there

This pretty much sums up our ST last year ... cant tell you how many games I saw where we started from our own 10 or 20 and they started at their 40 to our 40.

I wonder if the increased number of linebackers on special teams this year will actually help the kickoff return units, or is the problem simply down to the returner. Blackmon has looked great on punt returns, but seems to struggle with kickoffs.

The thing I'm most concerned about is Crosby and Kapinos... Crosby's been pretty shaky so far. I know that he didn't have his typical holder (who held last game? Was it Ruvell Martin?), but he's still looked average at best.

Need to see more of Kapinos to make a judgment, but can you blame me for being wary about our punting game?

I think worrying about our punting situation is somewhat analogous to worrying about your next poker hand because your previous three hands have been bad. The previous hands have no statistical bearing whatsoever on the current hand, yet a lot of players persist in believing in hot streaks and cold streaks. Ted Thompson has had the misfortune of drawing a bad punter or two in recent years, but that doesn't automatically mean Kapinos will be a bust. In fact, Kapinos was a breath of fresh air last year, and he looks pretty decent thus far.

Let's save the worrying for when Kapinos fails to perform to standard.

Very good point. Let me revise my previous statement. I'm not yet sold on the punting game, I want to see Kapinos and our coverage team perform well in the regular season before I consider the case closed.

Depends upon the game of poker and a shuffle before every hand.. 😉
