Thanks "Z"

I knew I could count on you as coming up with the info.

So... He got $3 MILLION for signing the contract. Based on 10 games he played after being picked up from New Yorks practice squad.

I think I will stand by my original post... His agent did his job, and he took advantage of the Favre situation during the off season from hell.

Bad on you Ted.

I love Ted... But I call this signing a mistake, based on his $3 Million dollar signing bonus.

Let me make this clear... BAD CONTRACT. NOT BAD PLAYER.

It will be interesting to see how it works for him if they do incorporate more power run schemes and it sound McCarthy might be leaning to put more of that in the game plan.

I think both Wynn and Lumpkin would like that. Both those guys are physical and hit the hole hard. I think the odd man out there would be Jackson although I like the way he runs when he's given a chance.

At the end of the day this is a passing team first and should be with the talent there. As hard as teams try to get balance if your not committed to being a very good run first team with a great RB and good run blockers I think you can only get so much out of that phase of the offense.

McCarthy said more power but still mostly zone. So the more zone helps Jackson and Jackson is the best pass catcher and as you said passing team first.

Also McCarthy has said he would rather be a run first team in the past. (though I'm not sure he meant it but anyways) This would be the best time to make the switch if you were going to do it, with Wells out Spitz move over and add in Sitton this is the best inside OL the Packers have had in a while and with a new RT and Clifton not looking so good last year pass blocking maybe harder.

Why would we do that? We have one of the very best WR groups in the game and a very capable QB. To try and switch the offense over to a mostly running attack, or, run first would be dumb.

Our WR's are better than our RB's.
Our O line has not shown that they are consistant or prolific run blockers.

I can see McCarthy striving to be a BETTER run team than they have shown in the past but to actually go at teams trying to beat them with a run first attack would be very poor judgement the way this team is set up.

Besides, you can win ball games with a good passing game and even an average run game but your not going to get far in the NFL without a good QB and a passing game. That's why when it gets to the playoffs you always see the teams with good passing attacks and guys that can chuck it still around.

You watch. What's going to come back and bite Minn is not having that stout passer and with Chicago not having a real WR group. And both those teams can run it.

Yep. Ted should have called his bluff, but with the whole Favre fiasco, I get the feeling it was more than he wanted to deal with at that moment.

As fucked up as it sounds, I was pretty happy when that call was reversed.

Okay maybe not run first but more equal. And the reason for a more equal attack because the line is because the IOL is the best run blocking it's been for a while. Plus new RT and Clifton look like he was starting to fall apart.

Plus the running game opens up the passing game.

and yes west coast offense pass to open up the run.... well it doesn't seem to work as much as the other way around. I mean look at the early 2000s where one could very well argue that Ahman Green and that very good OL opened up the passing game.

I don't disagree we should up the ante and find a way to get better production out of the run game and I think we will see better 0 line play in the run blocking area.

I think though that many teams that have a good passing attack are challenged more to get a consistant run game going just like run first teams find difficulty getting a decent and consistant pass attack together.

What I often see is the really good offensive teams are very good at one thing and average at another and the average offenses may have numbers in both the run and pass that are closer together.

In fact, if you look at the top ten scoring offenses last year we finished 5th in passing and 17th rushing for differential of 12 which was the 3rd smallest differential of all ten teams. Only NE was close to balanced at Passing #10 and running #6. NO and Ariz were the worst of the top ten having the #1 and #2 passing attacks and #28th and #32 running attacks.

So while all coaches talk balance and strive for an efficient run/pass offense, in reality, it doesn't happen much.

I'm afraid that the O-line is still in too much of a flux to help any average running back improve his game.
Perhaps if the O-line can work together and not have to play musical chairs, the running game will flourish later in the season.

Jackson has done too well for him to be the odd man out.
Grant NEEDS to show he can be "the man", or send him packing.
If he doesn't show that he has "it" early in the season, then sit him and let Jackson or one of the other guys run the ball.
We need production for the money he's getting.
