As my Facebook status said for weeks, I refuse to join Twitter. Talk about the ultimate in minimal-investment communication. What with texting, IMing, chatting, social networking, and yes, even forums, we have enough of that in the world. We need to learn how to start connecting again, not investing the bare minimum amount of commitment possible into our shallow interactions. Sites like Twitter give people a self-inflated feeling of importance, as well as the chance to delude themselves into thinking they've done their duty by "connecting" with others, when in fact they have done nothing of the sort. Relationships take damn hard work. A few perfunctory sentences of minutia on a blog site don't cut it.
