I liked Mike Daniels. I did think he was injured a bit too much for the salary I expected him to earn. I wouldn't mind him back, but I don't think he fits what the defense is trying to do.

One of many unfortunate side effects of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic as it concerns the NFL is the difficulty in evaluating the health of potential free agents. Look at former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton for a prime example. Newton is only a few years removed from an MVP season and is certainly more talented [...]

In Pettine's system i think he would have to be a stand up edge rusher. With his body type.

That being said, id like to see him come back. When healthy, he’s better than anyone we’ve got besides Kenny Clark.

I don't think it'll happen. He will be 31. He hasn't played a full season since 2016. His stats have declined for several straight years.

Anyways I don't see Gute doing it, because the Packers are short on cap space as it is, and because Gute has ALWAYS made roster moves to open spaces for young guys with potential to possible step up, and if there isn't room, he makes room.

But Gute mentioned as one of the reasons they let go of Nelson was because it's Adams time to be #1..... well it's Clark's time to be #1.

And like at WR where he was hoping the likes of Allison, Moore, MVS and St. Brown would step up.... there is Lancaster, Adams, Keke whom they hope can step up.

Plus not to mention, the Daniels, is pretty much limited to a 3 tech DT role, which is the best pass rushing role for DTs, they have moved Clark over to that spot since Daniels left... while I think it'd be best for their run defense if they got another 3 tech and moved Clark back over to the opposite 1 tech, a more run defense role, that might be seen as a demotion for your top guy who deserves a promotion...

And I don't think Clark is going anywhere, I think he's going to be at that 3 tech until another guy can step up for that important role... which really for that pass rushing role, there is only Adams and Keke from the guys that were here last year... and Adams is looking like a bust.... there is still hope for Keke whom showed some good slipperiness. Keke didn't do much as a rookie, but almost no DT does as a rookie.

Given PFF noted the Packers played the most dime personnel in 2019 (520 snaps), and that M. Adams had an abysmal 1 pressure in 112 pass-rushing snaps, I'd have to think Daniels has enough in the tank to provide more 'oomph' than 1 pressure in 112 situational snaps. In a limited role, with a short-term contract at a reasonable price, you provide a complement / an alternative to Kenny Clark in Dime packages... it helps the team.

Heck, I'd bring Daniels back just for the attitude factor alone. Add someone who is going to be pissed when the D gets punched in the mouth and be looking to bounce back / not get pushed around.

Probably highly unlikely, but I'd love to see it.
