One of the Packers struggles is that when Rodgers became so damn good, defenses says screw the run game, get after Rodgers, and teams didn't give a crap about Packers faking the run. This problem compound itself when Mike McCarthy got into trouble, he decided to pass it even more, so defenses knew the pass was coming. It become so bad that in 2018, Mike McCarthy called run plays only 32.46% of the time (4th lowest percent of any team since 2003 (Falcons/Browns in 2013, and Lions in 2006 were only teams worse)), as defenses dialed in on the passing game, which no longer had it's WR weapons.

The Packers needed either the WR weapons, or to change schemes... they decided to change schemes, moving from a pass sets up the run attack, to a run sets up the pass attack scheme, and where the RB is asked to be a star player to take pressure off of the QB and be used as a receiver on passing plays, to use their play making potential and ability to break tackles when one on one with a defender instead of block for the QB... also using versatile players, large WRs and TEs that can equally block just as well as run routes/catch, and you never know what they're going to be asked to do from play to play.

In 2019, the Packers called run plays on 40.19%, a 7.73% increase, but it seems teams still didn't respect the running game enough for LaFleur, and as Aaron Rodgers reportedly said, they didn't have the pieces to run their system in no huddle, and they didn't seem to have the pieces for LaFleur to call a lot of power/gap runs, as he hinted he'd like to add them more often going forward (something which I didn't think was a big deal at the time, but it appears he was being dead serious and they're going to be doing a lot of inside zone and power going forward).

For 2020, I' m expecting them to get them to once again, get about a 7% increase and run the ball MORE than 45% of the time, to force teams to respect the Packers running game, which will take pressure off Rodgers and versatile players, allow him to use more motions and quicker set-ups (if he chooses to use them) and all of this setting up some major play actions deep shots down the field a lot more often for Adams or our large receivers.

They're trying to create the same style offense that took John Elways and Peyton Manning to Superbowl victories during their time with the Broncos. As well as took Matt Ryan, Jared Goff and Jimmy Garoppolo to the Superbowl in recent years. Yes, they still got more work to do, but they're setting the ground foundation of that with the running game and versatile

If that’s the case, I think we need a more dominant OLine. Look at the 49ers. They absolutely manhandle everyone up front. I don’t see our line doing that.

Rodgers was a lot more effective when he was able to use play action passes.

No matter how talented your are as a running back in football, you won't be able to help your team much if the offensive line doesn't open holes along the line of scrimmage for you to exploit. When blocking for the running game, offensive linemen have to be very aggressive to knock defensive linemen and linebackers backwards or flat on their back.
