Has anyone ever enjoyed being fired? With that being said, this whole situation could have been handled better, imo. Should have happened last off season.

Mike got what he wanted last year. Then he fell flat on his face.

The way you avoid getting shitcanned in an awkward way is to not shit yourself in front of everyone.

I think he was probably expecting to be fired but he wasn't expecting it until after the season.
Given the circumstances (long tenure, previous success) and given how many people reacted negatively to it I don't think that was an unreasonable expectation.

He was leaving the press conference and someone came up and told him Murphy wanted to see him. He just said it seemed rather cold and impersonal when he went in to talk to Murphy and the timing was just off.

I don't think he holds a grudge against anyone and I think he realizes it was time. It was just a shock that it happened the way it did. To say it couldn't have been handled any worse is probably pretty accurate. Short of meeting him in the tunnel after the game or having a reporter ask him during the press conference "so what's next for Mike McCarthy now that you have been fired?" I can't think of a much worse way to be informed.

I don't think anyone besides Mike and Mike were privy to the conversation so no one can say he is wrong. Maybe Murphy didn't feel it was cold and impersonal but McCarthy did and you can't fault a guy for what his feelings are/were in a situation like that. Are you expecting him to be happy.

Having said that I do not blame the Packers at all for moving on when they did. Would it have been better to wait until the end of the season? Maybe, but I honestly don't see what good it would have done anyone to do so. Would it have been better to maybe wait until the next morning to let him know? Probably. It would seemed to be less of a knee jerk reaction to the loss at home to the Falcons. It may have given the impression that Murphy actually had to think about it as opposed to having it seem like he had made up his mind before the game that if they lost he would be let go. Like I said, I wasn't there so I am certainly not going to hold it against Mike McCarthy for having whatever feelings he had at what must have been a very tough and emotional time in his life.

I don’t really feel it was a knee jerk reaction by Murphy. I have a feeling that the decision was made that if the Packers didn’t make a strong showing at that game, that McCarthy would be fired.
To me it really seemed he lost the team, and that keeping him to the end of the season would do more hurt then good.
It showed the players that losing is not acceptable, and that anyone could be jettisoned.
Plus it gave Mike McCarthy a chance to get a jump on any possible job openings before other coaches.

So it was one of those rare ones where it didn’t hurt so bad to get tossed!🤣

I was against it at the time, but Bukowski's Locked on Packers podcast has swayed me.

You can't send the message with Ty Montgomery and Ha Ha Clinton Dix and then turn around and NOT apply the same criteria to Mike McCarthy. Accountability.

Get it done or gotfo. Even if you're the head coach.

According to Bukowski, Mike was still claiming stagnancy had not set in. Which proves the move was justified.

Anyone on the outside could see that something wasn’t right with him and the team. The fact that Mike McCarthy didn’t see it says just how far removed from reality he was.
It was like a sinking ship, and the captain thinks that nothing is wrong.

The way McCarthy described the firing though it sounded a bit impersonal it also sounded pretty standard. Starting to sound like McCarthy began thinking he was untouchable and let his foot off the gas. The fact that he was surprised by getting fired and thinking it couldn't have been handled any worse makes me think he was as big of an ego maniac as everyone thinks Rodgers is.

So did all this stuff drop after and BECAUSE of Mike speaking out on the way he was fired?

Kind of seems like they were both shutting up and going their ways, then Mike made a couple cracks, then BOOM.

EDIT: Just saw a Cowherd clip with Jennings. Greg Jennings says this article was in the works for two months, which he knows, because he was interviewed for it. From what he says, it's more likely Mike was asked to respond to ot, then decided to get out ahead of it a little with his own statements.

Zero2Cool (16-May) : From what I've read, it's all Jets , not us.

Zero2Cool (13-May) : Sources spoke of many, many times last summer where Hackett called a play, then Rodgers changed it completely at the line
Martha Careful (10-May) : 1. this is true of all our linemen. 2. His run block is fine. 3. If all OL played like he has, we would win SB.
beast (10-May) : Meyers pass blocking is really good, his run blocking is really not.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : Packers have claimed DE Spencer Waege off of waivers from the 49ers and waived DT Rodney Mathews.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : And the OL protections seem to be good.

Mucky Tundra (9-May) : 4th
Zero2Cool (9-May) : because he's 1st
Mucky Tundra (9-May) : Myers isn't even the 3rd best C on the roster atm
Martha Careful (9-May) : I am not sure I understand the Myers hate. He was consistently our third best lineman. RG and LT were worse.
beast (9-May) : Just saying I don't think moving Myers would help Myers.
beast (9-May) : Center is usually considered the easiest position physically if you can handle the snap stuff.
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : Bust it is then
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Context. Sounds like Myers won't be cross-trained. C or bust.
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : @BookOfEli_NFL Packers pass game coordinator, Jason Vrable said that Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks shared a placed in Florida while train
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : For now...
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers go about evaluating their "best five," OL coach Luke Butkus makes on thing clear: "Josh Myers is our center."
beast (8-May) : Though I'm a bit surprised letting go of CBs, I thought we needed more not less
beast (8-May) : It was confusing with two DB Anthony Johnson anyways
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers actually had Ray Lewis on the phone.
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers wanted to draft Ray Lewis. Ravens stole him.

buckeyepackfan (6-May) : The Green Bay Packers have signed WR Julian Hicks, OL Lecitus Smith (luh-SEET-us) and WR Dimitri Stanley
Zero2Cool (6-May) : Petty, but it's annoying me how the NFL is making the schedule release an event.
Mucky Tundra (4-May) : @mattschneidman Matt LaFleur on how he tore his pec: “Got in a fight with the bench press. I lost.”
Zero2Cool (3-May) : Jordan Love CAN sign an extension as of today. Might tak weeks/months though

Zero2Cool (2-May) : Season officially ending tonight for Bucks ... sad face
Zero2Cool (2-May) : Giannis Antetokounmpo is listed as out for tonight's game.
dfosterf (2-May) : Surprisingly low initially is my guess cap wise, but gonna pay the piper after that
dfosterf (2-May) : The number on Love is going to be brutal.
Zero2Cool (2-May) : May 3rd. Extension day for Jordan Love. (soonest)
Zero2Cool (1-May) : USFL MVP QB Alex McGough moved to WR. So that's why no WR drafted!
earthquake (1-May) : Packers draft starters at safety ever few years. Collins, Clinton-Dix, Savage
