So we all admit that everyone gets too heated whenever we argue about Ted Thompson, and that Ted Thompson comes up in almost every thread. I'm not sure where that leaves us. I don't even know why we have to discuss him so often at this point. I love conversations about what we should do, or where we think the team stands. I'm not a fan of when that turns into blaming this person or that person.

Not only do we know him, we know his secret sins and vices. Don't EVEN get me started about his ego.

It's pretty much impossible to discuss Thompson's work without discussing Thompson.

As stated earlier, there are people who don't like him. Just plain do. not. like. and don't think he's done a good job. Some of them have rationale for their opinions, whereas others seem to be inclined to hate him because - in their eyes, and perspective is reality - he forced a legend out of town (in the spirit of not getting anyone all riled up, again, it's a matter of perspective - this is how some folks see that situation, period). But we know who these people are at this point; one can just ignore their posts.

Now, some of us are a little nervous. We feel (and have legitimate reasons for feeling) that the Packers are at a point where an infusion of veteran talent could put the team over the top, and in fact we feel that infusion is necessary to put the team over the top. Especially along the front lines. And we're voicing our concerns that he hasn't done that to this point. Nothing invalid about that, and it's what fans always do in the offseason.

Others aren't nervous at all - be that due to having a great deal of faith in our F.O. or being of the opinion that the need for outside help isn't as dire as some would believe it to be. Also a perfectly valid viewpoint (and if Thompson really does intend to stand pat, hopefully a true one).

But you can't talk about that stuff without talking about Thompson - it's his job. So when it comes down to it, it's as simple as 93z said it is - act like grown-ups and be respectful in your tone when you've got a disagreement. We're talking about football, here - keeping a little perspective and being respectful can't be that hard to do, can it?

One cannot remove the person that wields the most authority of personnel decisions in regards to the team... so that leaves no option but to merge his name into discussions.

So the only viable solution known is to talk to the subject in a respectful manner, understanding that some people appose his decisions and handle yourself as a grown adult with the ability to speak upon the topic without resorting to aiming comments at other posters.

Pretty simple and logical to me.. call Ted a godlike GM or dog meat, unless Ted posts in objection.. take the type of talk as nothing more than a colorful adjective.

Where things cross the line is when people start calling out members and it turns into a verbal volleyball match of insults..

Can we not all handle the topic of conversation?

Minus the patronization, I'm sure we can handle it. I'm still going to refer to jsonline blog commenters as the whiny fanbase though. That's simply calling a spade a spade. So yeah, let's continue on calling Thompson a piece of shit or not a piece of shit.

I'm curious, since we all are clearly not happy with the 6-10 record last year, does anyone remember what FA's/players we were pushing for Thompson to go after and get in early 2008?

I remember one. Chris Simms. There was a ton of talk about how the Packers should get Simms. Where is that stellar QB right now? He lasted a year in Tennessee as a useless backup. Now he's riding the pine in Denver, and even with the Cutler fiasco, nobody wants to hand him the reins there, even temporarily.

I personally prefer it not to be a practice.. but some just can't seem to look at his entire body of work and realize that he has made both mistakes and very sound shrewd decisions.. some decisions very few would have had the intestinal fortitude to make.

His balance sheets looks a hell of a lot better than AIG's at the moment.. lol.

That would require research in other regions of the internet I suppose.. lol.. ;)

But I remember the Larry Johnson talks of last season..

Zero2Cool (9-May) : Packers have claimed DE Spencer Waege off of waivers from the 49ers and waived DT Rodney Mathews.

beast (9-May) : Just saying I don't think moving Myers would help Myers.
beast (9-May) : Center is usually considered the easiest position physically if you can handle the snap stuff.
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : Bust it is then
    Zero2Cool (8-May) : Context. Sounds like Myers won't be cross-trained. C or bust.

beast (8-May) : It was confusing with two DB Anthony Johnson anyways
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers actually had Ray Lewis on the phone.
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers wanted to draft Ray Lewis. Ravens stole him.

Zero2Cool (2-May) : Giannis Antetokounmpo is listed as out for tonight's game.
dfosterf (2-May) : Surprisingly low initially is my guess cap wise, but gonna pay the piper after that
dfosterf (2-May) : The number on Love is going to be brutal.
Zero2Cool (2-May) : May 3rd. Extension day for Jordan Love. (soonest)
Zero2Cool (1-May) : USFL MVP QB Alex McGough moved to WR. So that's why no WR drafted!
