No. Wrong.

I’m going to start by saying I’m a big Davante Adams fan.

I like his athleticism, his ability to get any ball and the chemistry he was able to make with backup Brett Hundley in a short time that will ultimately make him a decent amount of money in a contract year.

However, I would not sign Adams.

Of course you read that and think I’m off my rocker. You’re probably saying, “How the heck do the Packers NOT bring back their No. 1 wideout from a this year?” I understand that, because Jordy Nelson will be 33 next season, Randall Cobb hasn’t shown much of anything this year and the tight end position has been one big regret.

First, it comes down to health. Adams has been decleated not once but twice this year by Danny Trevathan and Thomas Davis. Adams has now suffered three concussions in two seasons. We’re not quite to Sam Shields territory yet, but the Packers have to start giving pause with the number of vicious hits that he has taken. It sounds disingenuous, but the Packers can’t shell out over $11 million a season to another receiver only to see him nurse another concussion.

Years ago when the Packers came up with a special helmet for Rodgers I thought the days of concussions was ending. Soon all the players would be wearing the "anti-concussion" helmet. Apparently it doesn't work that way or they would have mandated the helmet for everyone. What makes me wonder is why hasn't Aaron been concussed since then. Didn't he have at least 2 concussions before being outfitted?

I think Adams should be a top priority. I've grown tired of watching guys develop, only to be sent walking when it is time to pay them. Watch them go through growing pains, then cut them loose so someone else can benefit from it. If you let a player go, you need a solid plan to replace them.

If they let Adams walk, they NEED to pick up a blue chip free agent.

Using Corys line of thinking, The Packers should let Aaron Rodgers opt out of his contract and move on.

2 broken collar bones.
2 unnecessary vicious hits to the head.

Which is worse?

Davante bounces back from 2 concussions pretty quick.

There is injury risk signing anyone.

Get Aarons deal done, then Davantes.

Go from there.
Plenty of cap space to be cleared up if needed .

You sign the guy who if he already isn't, he will be the #1 guy soon.

The concussions are a problem, however, you contract around the concussions. You make the contract incentive based (I swear I say this about every contract).

Aaron Rodgers needs this guy.

for me it comes down to what the contract is. Because of the concussion issue, I would not give him a big SB, Give him a bigger first year salary, with following years money in roster Bonuses protecting the team.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

We need OLB, CB, ILB, WR (even with Adams), TE, OG. We need to re-sign Adams. We have too many other needs and he is getting better every year.

Side note: I've been wondering if the NFL someday will go to percentage of cap contracts... say the star QB gets 15% of whatever the cap will be... some people have predicted, that if the cap ever goes down, that teams will be fighting hard for it, while the player union and agents will try to avoid it.

The key is to make it a “Ted Thompson” contract. It might seem like a blockbuster at the time, but two years later it looks like a bargain.

Zero2Cool (16-May) : From what I've read, it's all Jets , not us.
