http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/02/15/chris-cooley-wonders-aloud-whether-scot-mccloughan-is-drinking/

-- This piece really gets it. This is a major issue in the NFL. I truly believe it has created hardened and emboldened homerism.

Nobody is getting the truth anymore. It's just all team flattering fluff leading the masses astray to the point you can't even tell them the truth without them freaking on you. The ear tickling has become many peoples truth.

Now, I'm not sure Cooley should've gone there but these kinds of things should be able to be discussed without fear of losing your job.

A buddy of mine does Redskins postgame. He once put out a negative opinion on the org on his FB page. I private messaged him asking him to take down his post for fear Snyder would can him. He removed it and told me it was good looking out.

What a sad state of affairs that everything has to be org flattering or there will be repercussions. Not sure many can see just how big of an issue this really is.

It's why I rail as hard as I do. Also why I love Bob McGinn. His kind is growing rarer and it's little wonder why he's reviled by many Packers fans. He is simply the best we have.

There is nothing wrong with a negative opinion, as long as it is backed up with facts.

As for the topic here. I like Chris, but he's wrong for surmising publicly that someone could be drinking, especially with what reasoning he's using. Alcoholism is a struggle, a daily struggle and for some it is an hourly struggle. If Chris genuinely cared, he'd call Scot and talk to him. If this was said by some random fan, not that big of a deal to me. It was said by someone who actually knows Scot and his struggle and that's cowardly to do in the public eye.

What Chris did is wrong. If we can't see that, then we should probably look in the mirror and ask ourselves a few important questions.

True, opinions are just that, opinions. I guess what I mean is, if someone has an opinion, and actual facts prove the opinion wrong, then shouldn't the person change their opinion?
As I have said before, some will hold onto their opinion, even if actual facts disprove it.

I would say you didn't know for sure. We would argue you might get mad, etc... and then just stop talking to me saying I was crazy. However, the "fact" is you don't know when your birthday is. You know when you were told it was and what has been recorded as your birthday in records but you will never ever know for sure that you were born on that day because you have no recollection and are dependent on others for what you would claim as fact. Yes, a fact that your birth certificate says it...your DL, your parents told you, you celebrate that day each year. All facts...but never a fact that you personally know that you were born on such and such day. Of course, this is something few would ever think or talk about but it's important to show that we don't "know" as much as we think or claim to "know". It is fair to say I believe my birthday is "x". You will never know and that same line of thinking applies to every facet of your life. Belief is everything. Belief should be supported by something but you would have to lather rinse repeat the whole process on each thing that supports what you believe.

Cooley was uncooley to speak to this issue on the air but the premise of being able to speak to things that are unflattering is very important or everything is just a sea of fluff. When someone enters with some counter opinion it wreaks havoc because the hearer of the opinion has been conditioned to only accept positive opinions. It's rampant all over not just on boards that relate to football.

Truth and fact is a very elusive twosome these days. Everyone has their own truth and fact setup these days and that will likely just get worse and worse. I think it's critical all of us very critically think about how and what we think and why we think it and be very open to change in our thinking.
