Packers tight end Colt Lyerla reportedly has a torn MCL and PCL in his right knee. Will the talented rookie spend his first season on injured reserve?

I think travel depends on teams... I think some teams don't allow their injury players to travel with them.

But I think the bigger question is he going to stay in Green Bay? or go home? or what is he going to be doing or not doing during his injury. I think this came up with the pre-Super Bowl twitter spat between Rodgers, Finley and Barnett... Rodgers got injured in years before and stayed in GB... while Finley and Barnett got injured in that year and went home (which I guess injury players can do)... and they argued weather the players that went home should be in the picture or not.

Finley and/or Barnett argued it was smarter to go home where you could get individual one on one treatment / rehab ... vs staying in GB where you got a limit number of trainers working on 60 plus guys (53 on active roster, 8 practice squad, plus injured guys who stay around). Seems like a reasonable idea to me, to go home and get some more one on one treatment/rehab.

Of course... one could also argue, that they might be able to do both... stay in GB and find someone local to help get them some one on one treatment / rehab.

I thought the SB picture issue was just due to being on the active roster, but I could be wrong.

As for practice on the team, etc. I'm not certain, you could be correct. Off of memory, I THOUGHT Sherrod and Bulaga stuck around town and in my opinion, being connected to the team, especially for someone with his track record is the best option.

The Green Bay Packers team picture controversy is still not going away, as tight end Jermichael Finley has now joined linebacker Nick Barnett in taking to Twitter to say quarterback Aaron Rodgers was wrong to criticize injured players who didn’t rehabilitate in Green Bay.

profootballtalk  wrote:

During a post-practice interview Saturday in Green Bay, Rodgers was asked by a Milwaukee television reporter what he thought about the Packers' numerous players on injured reserve being unable to participate in Super Bowl XLV.
...
"Well, I'll say this," Rodgers said. "I was on IR back in 2006, and I chose to stick around and finish out the season with my guys and be here every game. Some of those guys didn't. And so, we love them, we care about them, we don't wish injury on anybody, but this is a group of guys that's really come together and has been great to work with. It's been great to work with the guys we brought in mid-season, some of them, and the young guys. Some of the guys who were injured, you know, they are still part of this team, but some of them didn't choose to stick around."

The remarks immediately set off a rash of criticism; some directed at Rodgers, some directed at the players and some directed at various members of media for blowing the story out of proportion.

Linebacker Nick Barnett, out since suffering a wrist injury in Week 4 against the Lions, quickly responded on Twitter."Well looks like people have something to say about where some people choose to do rehab," Barnett said in his Tweet. He continued by saying "it's easy to speak about others when you are not in their position." Barnett quickly deleted those messages and posted a string of follow-ups, going so far as to suggest that he was deleting his account.

Tight end Jermichael Finley got into the fracas, too, quickly jumping to Barnett's defense. Unlike his teammate, Finley left his comments up and, later in the day, defended his decision to rehab in Arizona and pledge his allegiance to the Packers.

I agree, I think being connected to the team and learning more is the best option is best for any and all of the young guys as long as they can be mentally and emotional stable in GB... and like I suggested maybe there is a good rehab place in the GB area that they can get one on one attention?
