I hope not. Re-sign Quarless, give Bostick another year to grow and we could have a tough TE tandem. Better use of the pick would be for defensive help, or C

True also about defensive help - Safety or ILB. We don't need a center. We could use a couple of quality O-Linemen who can be cross-trained as centers.

Travis Swanson, C, Arkansas is the highest ranked C on most boards and he isn't a first round pick by most "experts". mid 2nd or 3rd round is most likely.

I have no problem seeing if the current TE stable develops or not. Q has looked pretty good the last couple of weeks. (6 for 66 and a td both weeks. I would take that all year long in a heart beat.)

If S Clinton-Dix were to fall to them that would be sweet. I expect he will be long gone. There are two TE that could help Eric Ebron & Jace Amaro. ILB C.J. Mosley would sure help. He can cover and rush from the inside position. Next to Clinton-Dix he is who I would hope Uncle Teddy thinks the BPA is when they select.

edit- with so many players going to be FA expect U T to get more help on the DL this year too.

If we really win out we'll be 32, which would be just fine with me… [grin1]

Much better to lose all our remaining games, clean house, get a high draft pick and start all over with a good team. Man we really screwed the pooch in these last two games

I haven't done enough homework on Eric Ebron, yet. I would point out that Jimmy Graham has three inches on Ebron, so already I'm questioning the comparison. Graham's height and speed combo is a big reason why he's such a dangerous player. Ebron (6-4) is not tall for a tight end.

I do love Austin Seferian-Jenkins, though. He's the total package. His blocking is good. His receiving skills are good. He has outstanding hands. I think he'll ascend up draft boards quickly.

If they don't go TE in round 1 but still want one, there's CJ Fiederowicz of Iowa who might be available in rounds 2-3. Fiederowicz is more the classic TE who's as comfortable throwing blocks around as catching passes. He's more in the mold of a Tony Gonzalez or Antonio Gates than a Jimmy Graham or Finley. With a new found power running game in Lacy, having a TE who can block at the line of scrimmage and the next level shouldn't be undervalued.

CJ Fiedorowicz, TE, Iowa

Edit: C.J. Fiedorowicz

Blocking: One of C.J.’s strong suits is his blocking ability. He can stone and stand the defender at the line of scrimmage. He has great footwork and is a natural bender, both in the knees and hips. He shows great hand placement and can garner good leverage on the defender. Having C.J. on the line has proven the same as placing another Tackle on the line, both in passing and running plays, and creates a natural strong side wherever he lines up.

Part of the beauty of the TE position is that the player at the position can stay in and effectively block, or work the field as a receiver. There is a deception component that defenses have to account for. Without the ability to adequately block, the player becomes one dimensional, ala Finley up until recently. Sure, defenses have to account for the large, fast receiver component, but rarely have to account for the possibility he may block on a running play. Might as well draft a tall WR in that case.

That is why I like Andrew Quarless so much. I believe Quarless is more of a complete player at TE, and gives the offense a bit more for defenses to account for because of his blocking skills and his size, along with his abilities to make plays in the open field with the ball.

Personally, I would much rather have a top S than a TE at this point. I think Safety needs to be our #1 priority this offseason.
