For YEARS I've heard Packers fans complain about zone blocking because the Packers OL hadn't been as good as it was under Sherman with run blocking.... but I kept trying to tell people it wasn't the scheme... it was the coaching and/or execution of said scheme...

But last night we FINALLY saw some GREAT ZONE BLOCKING where the linemen kept getting to the 2nd level and got to attack those LBers after getting the DL stopped first... which includes Starks long TD run.

Just felt like someone needs to point it out that it was zone blocking and they finally ran it amazingly. The scheme works very well if run correctly and no the smaller linemen thing is for the most part just a talking point as almost every team in the NFL runs some zone and some power plays... as some NFL current and former linemen have said you need to know both power and zone to play in the NFL now, because all teams use both just in different percent amounts. And to do zone correctly you need to be quick about some part of it... that doesn't mean you have to be small... just ask Raji and Howard Green... they're quick... and aren't that small... but I LOVE it... the OL pulled off some of the best zone blocking I've seen them do.

I won't break it down much until I watch the game again without a house full of company.. but the Kuhn TD was flat out an ass kicking.. one in which the rooted the DL out of the hole. No seal needed.. just boot their ass out.

I don't remember the Kuhn's TD play blocking at the top of my head but I'd guess to say that was probably power blocking.

Very cool.

Yes. Our OL was outstanding during this game. And not against a bunch of noobs, either! It was a lot of fun to watch them come together.

One of the interesting things is it usually takes them 8-10 games to get the zone blocking scheme down. Maybe it helps that they have been together for a while and working on their techniques for a while.
Must be the player organized practices that made the difference.

Zero2Cool (30-May) : Bears are the first team to be selected for Hard Knocks

Zero2Cool (13-May) : Sources spoke of many, many times last summer where Hackett called a play, then Rodgers changed it completely at the line
Martha Careful (10-May) : 1. this is true of all our linemen. 2. His run block is fine. 3. If all OL played like he has, we would win SB.
beast (10-May) : Meyers pass blocking is really good, his run blocking is really not.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : Packers have claimed DE Spencer Waege off of waivers from the 49ers and waived DT Rodney Mathews.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : And the OL protections seem to be good.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : I really don't know lol. I don't see him getting blown up.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : -3 buwahhhahaaha
Mucky Tundra (9-May) : 4th
Zero2Cool (9-May) : because he's 1st
Mucky Tundra (9-May) : Myers isn't even the 3rd best C on the roster atm
Martha Careful (9-May) : I am not sure I understand the Myers hate. He was consistently our third best lineman. RG and LT were worse.
beast (9-May) : Just saying I don't think moving Myers would help Myers.
beast (9-May) : Center is usually considered the easiest position physically if you can handle the snap stuff.
