Unfortunately, the hill often looks like Everest.

In a snowstorm.

And you're wearing those new dress loafers with the slippery leather soles.

I don't like being touched by strangers. Thus is another reason I hate the TSA.

I'm all about touch, don't get me wrong. It just has to be on my terms, not on someone else's.

I don't have an answer for you, Zero. Sometimes I wonder how many people are like that though. How many people build a wall around them and only let their guard down when they're drinking? Let's not forget that only a generation ago, everyone drank together. Now it seems nobody does.

This may or may not sound odd, but with my ex, she'd put her arm on me or grab my ass and it made me uncomfortable and I am terrible at hiding when I'm uncomfortable at times. It made her feel like crap and I had no excuse for it, but yet when I touched her and it was reciprocated, I was fine. I took it as a sign of being a control freak or something.

I'm not much of a drinker, unless someone is going to drive me back home or I can crash there. The few times I was drunk I did get more gumption to walk up to others that I'd normally not. If I'm feeling good, as in not hungry or tired and things are going well in life, generally speaking, I'm okay and open. But when I think I'm failing my job, or as a father, every little thing gets to me and I clam up and block everyone out.

Well, then I think it's a problem when a loved one actually makes you uncomfortable with what should be a loving touch.

I'd get help. I don't know whose. I don't have the answer to these things. But touch is such an integral part of a healthy relationship that when touch makes one uncomfortable, it creates problems.

I hope you're able to resolve this issue. Sorry I can't help as this isn't my expertise at all.

Me....i dislike crowds. Like at Summerfest or something like that, where the crowd is going in one direction, and you are trying to "swim upstream".
Or if the crowd is at a dead stop, and you can't move. Then i feel trapped.

I always had low self asteem. So when i was a kid, i learned to make people laugh, and thus became the "class clown".
I always liked to make people crack up when they were in places where they shouldn't laugh. I did this ALL the time to a friend of mine, who was 16 at the time, while i was 21. We'd be sitting together at church, and i'd whisper something to get him going.....he was an easy target, and he would TRY to hold it in.....he'd be shaking so hard, tears running down his face. SEVERAL times the preacher would stop, and tell him to knock it off. I of course, would have a straight face, and would elbow him and say "AL!!!! (his name was AL too) STOP IT! GROWUP!"
I'd do that with a straight face, which would just make him laugh more! I don't know HOW many times he got the "evil eye" from people around us, who had NO idea that I was the guilty one!

Alan, sounds similar for myself. Making others laugh, even if it was at me, made an uncomfortable situation, relaxing sort to speak.

This is what my mom believed. And she was always touching me. She does it to do this day and it creeps the shit out of me. She'll just start rubbing my back after dinner (not like a back rub but just a hand on my back rubbing). When I lived with her in high school she'd pet my arm or my leg. Just weird shit like that. It makes me uncomfortable with people touching me to this day.

There's no undertones of abuse here or anything. It was never sexual and I don't consider it a traumatizing issue. It was just plain weird and uncomfortable. I'm sure it has something to do with her attachment to me as her child and not being able to let go (she's unbelievably bad at this). My Freshman year in college she sent me a three page email about how she thought I was doing drugs and drinking, that I had a problem and that she was going to call the police. All because I didn't talk to her for a week and a half. She's also kind of a spiritual nut (I think she's a pagan, celebrates the solstices and such) and a has a doctorate in "Human Ecology," specifically mother-child and sexual relationships (separately of course). She was also a victim of abuse as a child. I know everything she did was out of love. I just think she didn't know she was overstepping boundaries.

Like I said it has affected me to this day. I don't like being touched without knowingly consenting to it. And I don't mean touch like basic human interaction i.e., handshake, high five, playing tackle football. I mean the soft, gentle and loving touches. It just brings back those uncomfortable feelings. Imagine someone gently, sensually touches you and it immediately reminds you of how your mom used to do the same thing bringing back the awkward feelings that come with it. Ugh.

I have gotten better about it the longer I've lived and it doesn't bother me as much anymore. But it's still weird.

Dcube....yes, it sounds like she may have a problem. But LOVE HER. Cherish the moments you have with your Mom.
Someday, she may not be there.
I had lost both my parents by the time i was 33. So hold onto the good times, and try not to let the bad times over rule.

And Wayne..........."PFFFFFTTTTT!!!" (That was my tounge stuck out at you!)LOL!
Yoiu should see the looks i'm getting here in the library....
