I wonder where that phrase comes from. It's not like people beat up living horses, so why beat up dead ones?

I always thought it referred to whipping a horse trying to get it to run faster. And that it did no good to try and get a dead horse to run faster.

It's purely an inside joke with Wade (see his crack on Ted Thompson and the OL). I wouldn't have bumped this thread had he not been the last poster in it.

It's supposed to be a slightly lewd comment: "Beating . . . beating . . . beating . . . oh, look, BOOBS!"

Sorry if the joke didn't come through.

Well, that Brightened up my day.

I briefly toyed with doing a dissertation on free trade in Victorian Britain, so I read a fair amount about Bright and sort of thought he was cool.

Of course I've since forgotten all of whatever it was I read and why I cared about Bright in particular.

But the 1867 Act was surprising to a lot of the radicals (of which Bright was certainly one). Not least because it was brought by the Conservative government of Disraeli.

Sigh....This makes me want to go dig out and re-read Blake's biography of Disraeli. If only I had the time. Will someone go read it and report back to us -- I guarantee you'll enjoy the read, all seven hundred or so pages of it. 🙂
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

I was thinking about this the other day, but has there been a better free agent signing than Charles Woodson in the past 5 or so years? Drew Brees is the clear answer, but other than that has there been anyone close to Chuck Wood?

Tough call between Brees and Woody. Of course, QB is the most important player in today's NFL. No argument. Brees was the best QB last year. But Woody was no slouch either.

Since coming to the Packers, Woodson has amassed 28 INTs, returned 6 for TDs, returned one fumble for a TD, forced 8 fumbles, recovered five, got himself six sacks, and has never had under 50 tackles in a season.

Those are absolutely sick numbers, so good that Woody has a pretty good shot at landing in the Hall right now.

Yes, I'd say you're right that Brees was the clear answer, but not by as much as we realize. As important as QB is (and Brees is the best in the NFL), we have the best playmaker CB in the NFL in Woodson.

So we have Brees and pretty much no one else. I'm drawing a blank. Anyone else?

Zero2Cool (30-May) : Bears are the first team to be selected for Hard Knocks
dfosterf (29-May) : Andy Herman and his Pack a day podcast put up GB strengths yesterday. This morning he did weaknesses. They are both very good.

Zero2Cool (13-May) : Sources spoke of many, many times last summer where Hackett called a play, then Rodgers changed it completely at the line
Martha Careful (10-May) : 1. this is true of all our linemen. 2. His run block is fine. 3. If all OL played like he has, we would win SB.
beast (10-May) : Meyers pass blocking is really good, his run blocking is really not.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : Packers have claimed DE Spencer Waege off of waivers from the 49ers and waived DT Rodney Mathews.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : And the OL protections seem to be good.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : I really don't know lol. I don't see him getting blown up.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : -3 buwahhhahaaha
Mucky Tundra (9-May) : 4th
Zero2Cool (9-May) : because he's 1st
Mucky Tundra (9-May) : Myers isn't even the 3rd best C on the roster atm
Martha Careful (9-May) : I am not sure I understand the Myers hate. He was consistently our third best lineman. RG and LT were worse.
beast (9-May) : Just saying I don't think moving Myers would help Myers.
beast (9-May) : Center is usually considered the easiest position physically if you can handle the snap stuff.
