Unless they're playing for free, every championship that has ever been won has been "bought". The whole "he bought all his championships" thing is so overdone. He didn't "buy" his titles any more than any other owner did. Look at the core players of the 90s run. Jeter, Rivera, Posada and Pettitte. All players brought up in the Yankees farm system.

Like I said earlier, there are owners who have a lot more money than the Steinbrenners, and they could do the same thing and spend a ton to bring in players, but they don't. They care more about profits than winning. At least George put his money back into the game.

Baseball-wise-

He ruined the sport for me.

Reminds me of an old Seals and Crofts song, or at least part of the lyrics:

"I'm the king."

"Of nothing."

That's what baseball is to me, in a very large part due to George, the Yankees, the lack of a salary cap and proper revenue sharing, etc.

His actions were useful to me in the sense that I knew what to oppose as regards the NFL.

I wish he would have just stuck to being filthy rich as a shipping magnate instead of sticking his nose into MLB.

Sorry if that's harsh, but it is my truth about the man.

He did contribute to my enjoyment of life in one way...

Those Seinfeld episodes where George Costanza comes into his office...

They were probably closer to how George S. rolled than any Yankee fan would ever care to admit, lol...

I do understand how Yankee fans would like/love him, I'll just never understand how they could root for evil incarnate in the first place, team-wise, but that's just me...
