I like the targeting of a WR and wouldn't be surprised if they go WR in the 2nd or 3rd with all the guys that have contracts expiring the next two years (the downside to the "bulk" drafting they've done).

WR Watson
WR Doubs
RT Tom
LT Walker
RG Rhyan

ILB Walker
DT Wyatt
DE Enagbare (whom is currently getting starter snaps, since the Preston trade)

And simply from a cap contract perspective, you might want to grab some guys at these positions as we're going to lose some.

I also like the drafting a bruising power back; last years draft was weak in power and it would let the Packers move on from Jacobs after 2025 and go with Lloyd, draft pick and someone else in the future. CB is going to be the biggest need and you emulated Gutes bulk drafting tendencies

That's crazy talk!

Also, I doubt Coleman falls this far, as he's one of the best, if not the best at pass blocking and blitz pickup, so teams that value that will be absolutely drooling over him. And not to say we don't value that, but most of the wide zone schemes value receiving abilities more. But still, could be a valuable RB that drops.

and went with a big body early which fits what GB+Gute tends to go for. Though it is my understanding that this is a deep draft for the defensive line so maybe they grab a CB first and get a dlineman later.

Though I will say PFF rankings of the DTs value run stopping more, where the Packers seem to be using DT penetration to target the OGs and get the ball out of the backfield quicker, so I think the Packers would value the pass rushing DTs more.

Such as the DT from South Carolina or Mississippi State over the DTs from Ohio State or #2 DT from Michigan.

Of the aforementioned quibbles, they're mostly of a minor nature. I'd like to see an OT in the 4th or 5th to be a swing backup/Walker replacement in 2026 (pass blocking OTs tend to get paid well and I'm not sure if it's in the budget to resign both ZT+Walker).

My draft crush at OT is Hollin Pierce from Rutgers. Though PFF doesn't grade him high for some reason, but I just gambled and missed out on grabbing him.

But there are a number of interesting OT prospects, all have their flaw, but sort of pick what you prefer.

Also I've been complaining about the Packers linemen picks for years (both sides)... I mean yes they picked Tom but also they lucked into that, as they saw him as a Center. And I loved Tom and thought he should of clearly been picked before Rhyan.

But the Packers brought in former OL coach James Campen to help Scout and I'm so excited to (hopefully) see the OL selected improve.

One interesting thing, Gute seems to want them to be at least 6'4", which is not surprising for OT, but other than Monk, all of OL draft picks, including the interior late draft pick ones have been between 6'4" flat and 6'6" flat. With a lot of UDFA OTs that are 6'7"

I also don't think they'll go with a QB before the last two rounds with how well Willis has played. I think they'll go with a QB in the 6th or 7th and stick him on the PS.

Also, are there any TEs that can block and play H-Back? We're leaning heavily on Kraft this season so it'd be nice to get someone who can block and take some of the load off of Kraft going forward/Kraft gets injured.

There are also some that are blockers, but they usually absolutely suck as a receiver.

Basically taking a TE is taking a gamble that you can develop them into a well rounded player, or play to their strengths.

They don't say this about linebackers (NOT talking about edge rushers, aka, 3-4 OLB, but the true 2nd level coverage LBs), it seems like a lot of them also bust, and they have the highest 1st round bust rate.

So those positions like TE and LB where it's asking guys to be extremely versatile and well rounded at everything, seem to be harder for teams to scout. That or they're just less that are ready for the NFL level. And you got to be able to find them later and develop them.

As the Packers did with ILB Walker, they gambled, Walker was an extremely athletic LB, hoping they could develop him into a complete all round player.

Notes:
I let PFF pick the order, so don't blame me for the draft order. And yes, I have a trade down addition as a certain percentage of players always seem to disappoint, so I like quality. Though I've been liking the mid-20s a bit more lately, but I expect Gute will trade up a bit and get to the very late teens or early 20s if he can.

I think the Packers will request that CB Jaire Alexander take a pay cut, depending on how that goes, they might release him, or might keep him to see how he is in training camp. Though, I also wouldn't be surprised to see the Packers sign a FA that one of the coaches have some connection too, which includes but not limited to the Chargers and Jets CBs.

A number of the 6th and 7th are surprisingly to fall that far to me, and might be taken earlier in the actual draft.

Onto the Mock:

1.32) CB Barren
Extremely versatile, as he's been used outside, in the nickel and even in the box, as a coverage LB role. Doesn't have great length, but has shown great skills in zone coverage and run defense. Some believe he's be an absolute star in the slot role.

2.56) DE Ivey
This draft seems extremely deep at DL, normally I don't think someone with Ivey's potential would fall this far, a fairly athletic 6'6" 285 LB, that has been used at DT in certain pass rush packages, but Van Ness would be better inside than Ivey. Ivey has a ton of potential, but he's still needs some development, but the flashes of upside potential are too good not to try to develop.

2.64) CB Alexander
Outside CB only, but he has the length, to go in press man, with coverage skills for man or zone and willing to fight in the run game. Good quickness, but not great speed, but with his length and smart he can get his hands on a WR and slow them down without getting a flag.

3.88) RG Ratledge
For years, Ratledge has been one of the pass blocking OGs in college, and after Georgia's Center was drafted, Ratledge was preparing to play Center this year until someone else on the team stepped up enough they felt comfortable keeping Ratledge at RG. So he MIGHT also be able to play Center. He did improve his run blocking this year.

5.138) OL Monheim
Has over 700 snaps at RT, LT and C, and over 300 snaps at RG. Packers love versatile linemen and Monheim has been the definition of that in college. His best season came at RT. But he after a rough start, he knocked the rust off, improving a lot and looked pretty good at Center in 2024.

6. 198) OT Pierce
Not saying he will, but Piece MIGHT be selected in the top 3 rounds. He's absolutely massive man at 6'8" 340+ and like most of the ultra massive guys, he doesn't have the best quickness, but you still have to go extra far to get around him, and all he's done is made a good improvement each and every year, including getting his weight way down, as he used to be a lot heavier. Teams that go for size and don't mind the lack of quickness as much, might absolutely love everything about him, on and off the field.

7. 224) QB Dart
There is no QB Willis in this draft, but I think Dart might be close, one year as the 3rd QB and then becoming the #2 QB if Willis leaves in FA.

7. 225) CB Bryant
I believe Bryant is dropping on the big board because he's under 180 lbs, but based on PFF, he has an elite run defensive score, and is above average in zone and man coverage. Though Gute seems to stick to his sizes, and I believe he's only gone slightly under 195lb twice, one for Jaire Alexander, and a late round DB. So Bryant will probably be off Gute's big board, but I think it's worth the risk of he falls enough.

7. 247) DT Slackman
Very very good year in 2022, great year in 2023 and then a year full of injuries and average play in 2024. If you ignore the 2024 year, and draft him based on '22 and '23 years, I think think he could be a pretty high round pick. He would be an absolute steal here, even if he busts, taking the shot at the food years is a no brainier at this point.

7. 248) LB Gbenda
Gbenda is undersized, at only 5'11", so he might be off of Gute's board but Gbenda is still listed at 235 which is normal ILB weight these days. Also Gbenda appears to be more athletic than average, doing well in coverage and run stopping, but poor the few times he was asked to pass rush. But use him as a coverage LB and STer.

7. 249) WR Brooks
If you only look at his highlights, you could easily swear he'd be going much higher (and he might be), as he's 6'2", fast and very athletic. But despite having all the physical upside, Brooks might still drop due to a ton of inconsistency. While he can absolutely make the highlight plays, he can also miss them with easy drops, or other things going wrong too often enough. But with Watson most likely to miss the start of next year, I figure we could absolutely use a tall speedster even if we mostly just use him as a deep decoy.

Need to add WR to the list of needs.

you can bet our top couple of draft picks will have high RAS, limited starting experience, and low Wonderlic test results.

they will have limited contributions the first two years and we will continue to hear "yes, but we are a young team."
Go Packers!!!!

This mock is done with the assumption that the Packers will sign starting CB and C in FA.

pff_mock_results - 2025-01-27T145551.797.png You have insufficient rights to see the content.

1.23 DE Nic Scorton, Texas A&M
Power Rusher with a lot of physical potential upside like Gute likes.

2. WR Jayden Higgins, Iowa State
No, he doesn't have the elite speed that Watson has, but he's 6'4", 215 lb, with extra long arms, good route running and great body control and hands.

3.87 DT Derrick Harmon, Oregon
6'4", 310, long, athletic and physical, sometimes almost looks like an oversized DE, and has played 3-4 DE. Physical and tough.

5.154 CB Nohl Williams, California
If we're trying to play Cover 3, then we need some physical CBs and that's exactly what Williams is, he's going to get his hands on the WR. Also has worked as a punt returner.

5.167 OL Ajani Cornelius, Oregon
A physical 6'4" 315lb RT in college, but I'm drafting him with the expectations of moving him to RG and hope he can battle for the spot or at least be ready to take it over when Rhyan's contract is up.

6.193 TE Oronde Gadsden II, Syracuse
I'd probably be willing to take Gadsden higher than this, but one needs to note he might be more of a WR than TE, but he might be the receiving TE type that we were hoping Musgrave would be.

6.209 OT Hollin Pierce, Rutgers
6'8", 345 lbs, he used to be over 400 lbs, lacks some athleticism (most HUGE guys do), but he's sure physical and long. The question will be can he keep up with NFL quickness on the edge, as he's likely too big to be moved inside.

Also, if they don't re-sign C Myers, then #71 would be available, and maybe we could run some U-71 packages. Heck, if he has any sort of hands, at 6'8" goal line package, tell him to take two steps forward and turn around.

7.229 QB Jaxson Dart, Mississippi
Not as athletic as Willis, but still fairly athletic, with no clear weakness, which could be this year's late round steal, should he fall to the late rounds.

7.232 C Drew Kendall, Boston College
Very athletic Center, whom played under Hafley. Needs some adjustments on his stance and to get stronger, but should LaFleur ever want a pulling linemen or to send someone to the second level, Kendall will get there better than most Centers.

7.243 WR Elijah Badger, Florida
Wisconsin is the Badger state... but besides that, Badger didn't have a single drop, while being a quick, large slot option, that has very good contact balance to potentially break tackles. Some ST value as a return man. But while he has physical potential, he hasn't done enough against the best opponents which is he falls to end of the draft.

Based on players under contract through 2026. I think 2025 draft is gonna be offense focused. Mainly OL and WR.
