The Packers won SB XLV in Rodgers' second playoffs. Can Love do the same? The two QBs and teams have much in common.

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The locker room was mostly empty, except for Josh Jacobs and Xavier McKinney. It was their first news conference after signing as free agents with the Green Bay Packers last offseason.

Yet, from the moment Jacobs and McKinney stepped inside Lambeau Field, they could sense what had happened less than two months earlier. They felt the Packers' last-minute playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC divisional round seeping from the walls.

But as disappointed as everyone in the organization was about the loss, there was a feeling a window had been opened to the future for the youngest team in the NFL, led by a rising star in quarterback Jordan Love.

"From day one, it's been mentioned," Jacobs said of the loss, shortly after he arrived in Green Bay. "Just between the guys, it's been mentioned."

In 2010, there was a similar mood among those who had just joined the Packers, months after the team lost an NFC wild-card game, 51-45 in overtime, to the Arizona Cardinals during quarterback Aaron Rodgers' maiden trip to the playoffs.

"You could tell it was a little bit of a driving factor going into it," recalled Packers tackle Bryan Bulaga, who joined the team in 2010 as a rookie first-round pick. "It seemed like it was more of a driving factor that we could go further, and we know we can do more. I didn't really know that, because I was a rookie, but you could tell other guys felt like this team had more."

That 2010 team went on to win Super Bowl XLV. Can this Packers team follow the same path to a championship? The 2009-10 and 2023-24 Packers have much in common.

Both had a young quarterback heading to his second straight postseason. Both were wild-card teams that few on the outside considered a Super Bowl favorite. Both had young rosters. The 2010 team won a championship by going on the road for every playoff game. This year's team, the No. 7 seed, begins its quest on the road against the second-seeded Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC wild-card round (4:30 p.m. ET, Fox).

"When you go through things like that -- and a young team at that -- you have those experiences and you go through the losing part of it. That helps you learn," said McKinney, the safety who signed with the Packers during the offseason.

"It's not necessarily that they lost, you're learning from that situation. Next time when it pops up, you know how to handle it and you know how to go about it. ...That added fuel to the fire. And just adding pieces -- myself, Josh -- to what they had already going on, I think really helps put it all together."

Though the 2010 team went into the playoffs on a high note, having to win their last two games just to get into the postseason, this season's team has limped in with back-to-back losses.

I haven't read through all of this yet, but didn't Aaron Rodgers win Super Bowl in 2010, which was his third year starting?

Yes he won it in the 2010-2011 season, which was in fact his 3rd year starting. This article suggests that they won it in the 2009-2010 season which is false.

I agree with QB Kurt Benkurt, that Love clearly seems most comfortable in the hurry up, we're behind by a lot, let's go all out passing offense, as he gets in a great rhythm and LaFleur should strongly consider starting in that scheme, or at the very least getting into that offensive scheme a heck of a lot sooner when they get behind.

Instead of starting with the run game and moving to the passing game, how about starting with the passing game, getting ahead and then pounding away at them to kill the clock.

Mucky Tundra (26m) : @AaronNagler · 2m Both Jordan Love and Malik Willis were Limited participants at Packers practice today.
Zero2Cool (3h) : Johnson didn't make it until 2020. Ring 2023. 🤷 Personally, he should have been in years prior to Hall.
Zero2Cool (3h) : HUMP DAY
beast (3h) : Guys that have a good shot at making the NFL Hall of Fame usually get into their teams pretty fast
beast (3h) : Yeah, but is Kampman and the others in the NFL Hall of Fame?
Zero2Cool (3h) : Johnson was Hall of Fame, 2020. Should haev been in Ring a year later, not three years.
Zero2Cool (3h) : I could be wrong there though
Zero2Cool (3h) : Guys like Kampman, Tim Harris, Al Harris, etc all over 15 years. Hall of Fame is 5 year wait
Zero2Cool (3h) : I guess I see players in Packers Hall come way later
beast (3h) : Yeah, usually teams hall of fames are a much lower bar than the NFL
Zero2Cool (3h) : is it uncommon for Hall before Ring?
Zero2Cool (4h) : S Xavier McKinney named first-team All-Pro by NFLPA
beast (5h) : I missed it, sorry, but he got into the NFL Hall of Fame years before that
Zero2Cool (5h) : Jones took his sweet ole time!
Zero2Cool (5h) : Yeah, he's in the ring of honor, just saw video and his name is up there
Zero2Cool (5h) : Didn't they have a thing in 2023 for Jimmy's ring of honor? I swear I saw it
beast (5h) : Though if they're legitimately trying to re-sign MM, then it makes sense.
beast (5h) : Jerry Jones still hasn't put Jimmy Johnson in the Ring of Honor, but he's in the NFL's Hall of Fame, Jones is petty
Mucky Tundra (17h) : Unless the Cowboys are planning an extension, seems kinda petty
beast (19h) : Cowboys denied Bears request
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : From what I'm reading, MM is under contract through the 14th of January; after that he's free game
Zero2Cool (6-Jan) : McCarthy let go or not extended??
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : Chicago Bears have asked the Dallas Cowboys permission to interview Mike McCarthy for head coaching vacancy
Zero2Cool (6-Jan) : The winners page that is
Zero2Cool (6-Jan) : I was not hoping for that. It messes up the page lol
beast (6-Jan) : Thank you, and I was really opening we were going to get 4 or more tied for the top 3.
beast (6-Jan) : Thank you, and I was really opening we were going to get 4 or more tied for the top 3.
beast (6-Jan) : Thank you, and I was really opening we were going to get 4 or more tied for the top 3
Zero2Cool (6-Jan) : congrats beast on 2024 !
Zero2Cool (6-Jan) : congrats porky on winning 2023 pick'em! (oops sorry)
Zero2Cool (6-Jan) : Packers have $60M+ of 2025 cap space on paper TODAY.
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : Missed FG into a Lions TD; that'll do pig, that'll do
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : That might be it for the Vikings
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : Oh so the refs do know what intentional grounding is
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : what the hell was that Goff?! Not much pressure and he just air mails it to Harrison
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : They really need to to get rid of the auto first down for illegal contact
Martha Careful (6-Jan) : watching the Vikings and Lions it's understandable why they swept the Packers. So much better product
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : Even when GB got pressure he was throwing darts; vs no pressure on that last pass he just air mails an open guy
Zero2Cool (6-Jan) : didn't have guys in his face ... pressure makes difference
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : Where was this Darnold vs GB?
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : BALL DON'T LIE
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : how was that not a safety? Goff throws it at an offensive lineman
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : Zero, I thought that was a given! ;)
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : Zero I looked through earlier and noticed the same thing. Bonkers year. I just wonder if beast put any money on games
Zero2Cool (6-Jan) : I'm hoping for BLOODBATH. Pummel one another.
Zero2Cool (6-Jan) : 8 people in pick'em would have won any year with their total lol
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : I'm rooting for the Lions to lose.
Mucky Tundra (6-Jan) : God help me but I'm rooting for the Vikings to...Vikings to...Christ I can't say it
Zero2Cool (6-Jan) : 4 td for Rodgers
Zero2Cool (6-Jan) : Chiefs got shutout
