James Campen is now helping general manager Brian Gutekunst and the front office find offensive linemen.

According to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky , the Green Bay Packers  have brought back a familiar face to help them in a consulting role: former offensive line coach James Campen. Under Campen, the Packers were able to develop several Day 3 selections into star offensive linemen, including Josh Sitton, T.J. Lang, David Bakhtiari, J.C. Tretter and Corey Linsley.


After Green Bay’s offensive staff turned over following the 2018 firing of head coach Mike McCarthy, Campen landed offensive line coaching jobs with the Cleveland Browns , Los Angeles Chargers , Houston Texans  and Carolina Panthers . This season marks the first time that he’s not a full-time on-field coach in the NFL since 2004, when he started his coaching career in Green Bay after a stint as a high school head coach.


The 60-year-old will now report to general manager Brian Gutekunst, who he previously worked with in his time in Green Bay, as he serves in a scouting role, per Demovsky. Apparently, Campen will “mostly work remotely” from Florida but was photographed at Tuesday’s practice — during the final week of the preseason.


Hopefully, Campen can help the Packers find a couple of diamonds in the rough from either the college level or free agency. With cutdowns just a week away, Campen is almost certainly knee-deep in film work right now.
