That was the worst game I've seen Aaron Rodgers play at least since Tampa Bay last year. It was below par for an NFL QB. Some misfires early in the game and two horrible interceptions, plus he absolutely failed to make a play down the stretch even when he had decent protection.

Greg,

It was a freaking win. He did what he had to do, and the first INT was not his fault.

1-0 on the road.

Nuff Said.

Did you read my entire post? I said it was a good win in a tough place to win. I'm not trying to be negative about Aaron. I think he is a top five QB in the league and will have a great season. But he had a bad game today. He even admitted it himself. Sometimes it happens even to the best of them.

To go into a bit more detail: The first INT was a throw into triple coverage that should've been picked off by the first guy, but it bounced off him and into another defender's hands. It was entirely Aaron's fault. So was the second one. The ball slipped out of his hand. You can't get down on a guy too much for that, but it was still his fault.

Also, I would argue that Aaron did not do what he had to do, because he was ineffective in the fourth quarter, when the offense could've closed out the game with a drive for a field goal. The defense had to win the game by getting a stop. And they did it. In a way, it may actually be better that it turned out that way. This has to be a big boost for our defense.

The special teams were very good too, by the way. Good coverage, a couple of nice, well-blocked (and penalty free) kickoff returns by Jordy Nelson, two long field goals by Crosby (including a new Packer record for longest field goal), and three out of four good punts by Masthay. A lot more positives than negatives, and I'm very happy about this game.

First time we've won there since the 60's, I'll take it.

Rodgers had a pretty sub par game but it's the opener and a W in the column, I'm happy.

Wasn't happy with the mentality dom came out with in the second half and more specifically the calls he was making at the end of the game. Its like he ended up trying to save the game rather than win it. We will not beat top teams if we aren't trying to bury them into the ground at all stages.

Please enlighten us to the plays you would have called against a Vick that looked like the player who made 3 pro-bowls.

Honestly, did you see the number of times we collapsed the pocket, only to see Vick get out on the edge and use his legs to make plays? Any other QB, and we get a few more sacks. Instead, with Vick's speed, he escapes and finds open space.

Add to that the fact that our players were clearly gassed (that tends to happen when you expand energy chasing the QB down once he escapes).

Even more, we had a D with only 2 healthy D-linemen (Harrell leg injury, Jenkins broke his left hand, Neil did not suit up), and even though Jenkins returned he clearly was having trouble wrapping up with the cast on his hand.

Considering Capers did not game-plan for Vick taking most of the snaps as QB, I'm okay with our performance. We have to do better against better teams, but considering the circumstances today I cannot whine about our play.

I agree with the defense. Tip your hat to them. They played great. They didn't gameplan for Vick and he beat them pretty badly. But there is no shame in that. He made a lot of his plays on his own. I thought the pass rush today was fantastic. They got after it and Vick had a couple of plays that would've been sacks had it been a more nonmobile QB.

Still, need to see a killer instinct out of the offense. It just isn't there. It wasn't there last year either. That's the one concern I have with the offense. Beyond that, I think they'll get it together.

Of course, concerned about Ryan Grant.

They wouldn't have scored more than 10 with Kolb in. I hate when we knock the starting QB out. The backups are always so unpredictable. It makes them dangerous.

I agree with Porky. Our offense has seemed to be focused primarily on flash the past couple of years. They don't put their foot on the necks of opponents and bear down. They seem to get apathetic and listless with even the smallest of leads, and if they go up by more than a score or two, they seem to lose all focus. I don't know if it's a personnel issue or if it's Mike McCarthy's fault. All I know is our offense seems to have a serious case of ADD. They get bored really easily.

Either that, or Mike McCarthy has some sort of moral objection to blowing opponents out. 😉

Aside from winning, my favorite part of that game... only two penalties. Finally, we have a game without a holding penalty every other series or a handful of false starts and pass interferences.

I feel this was one of the hardest games on our schedule and it is great to come away with a win, even if it was an ugly 4th quarter. That said, I do not like how we seemed to just coast through the final quarter. We had them by the throat and failed to kill it off.

What I saw:

Rodgers had an off day. I expect him to snap out of it next week.

We created a lot of pressure and had it not been for Vick's speed and improv I think Philly would have been carting off a second quarterback of the day.

Clay Matthews is a complete stud. He had two sacks, forced a fumble, had the fourth down stop, and should have had a pick.

On that note, we need to get our defense working with the Jugs machine. We dropped three easy picks, one of them twice.

Fewer penalties and better ST. Probably because they spent time working on it. Like I have been saying all preseason.

-I was unimpressed by A-Rod, he looked a little flustered out there but Philly's D is no joke
- O Tackles looked real bad, Philly got continuous pressure with blitzes
- B Jack ran with great energy and strength I was glad to see that
- Jordy Nelson made me eat my words all night on KR although Philly was shaky in kick coverage.
- Mike McCarthy has got to grow some balls, it was late in the 3rd, we were up 27-10... run, run, run punt, go for the throat and this game would have been out of reach.
- Thought the defense did a good job overall tonight
- Very impressed by the movement and pressure from the D Line, they looked sharp
- Matthews is a beast
- Shields looked completely lost on that Maclin TD... COMPLETELY
- Our youth on defense showed in the second half
- Overall, it was fine because I'm sure they werent preparing that much for the different skill set that Vick brings and they did a nice job adjusting, the one big run Vick had I counted 3 different blatant hold
- Also on the Kolb fumble, it never hit the ref, I rewound it 150 times, he just called it dead because he assumed it would go out, it simply took a funky spin and stopped, should have been a defensive TD
- We have to finish games, step on the throat and play sound D in the secondary to improve!
