If Chery does a good job against KC, and Blackmon's injury keeps him out of the lineup, they might as well put Chery in there for the season opener and see what happens. Returner is a job where young players often make a big impact. I think Jordy Nelson and Brandon Jackson can do a decent job returning kickoffs, but aside from Blackmon, there are no real punt returners on the roster, and they don't want to throw one of their starting CBs back there.

This may sound stupid, but I think they'd like to take Blackmon off returns altogether and have him focus solely on Safety. So, they may side with whom has the most potential rather than who has the best stats, per se.
