Packers "cutting down to 53" thread

Need to be at 75 players by Tuesday. Needs to be at 53 by Saturday 9/4.

WR Shawn Gore was cut earlier today which is no real surprise.

Bedard made a good point about this: these cuts are all about trimming down at the healthier positions in camp to keep bodies for the final pre-season game, especially at those positions hurt by injury.

I guess the only thing I am interested in is whether or not we cut a punter in the first round of cuts after Masthay's strong performance.

MM said the punter battle is closer if you count the work each guy has done in practice. 2 punts in a preaseason game is not going to carry a lot of weight in the decision. For him anyway. The fans will make their minds up at the whim of a hat.

I say screw having a punter, keep an extra TE or WR instead. Just squib the punt kicks out of bounds.

Given that Masthay got a few kickoffs I think he's got it locked up.

But they'll let them both practice, but we should be seeing our starting punter play the entire 4th preseason game.

WR is pretty strong so I expect another one of them to be cut for the 75 roster.

The determining factor is if Bryan is holding in that game. They are alternating games and it is his turn to hold for FGs. If Masthay is holding he is in. If Bryan is holding, it either isn't decided or he is in.

Yeah looks like you're right, they'll let both compete all the way through. Although the way in which the article is written can be a tad confusing.

Watch out for sneaky cuts down to 75 on Tuesday. Last year the Packers cut DeShawn Wynn in the first round only to bring him back for the PS. Afterwards Ted Thompson said they did it to get him through waivers as most team ditch their garbage in the first cuts.
