Here's a question. Suppose Bulaga proves a complete stud (i.e. All Pro type) at LG as some of us think he will be. End of year comes. Should team go after another T or a G in the offseason?

Do you keep Bulaga at guard or hope he can also be AllPro at LT?

Me, I'd keep him at LG and use him as insurance policy/temporary fill in at LT.

I'd start by going from 3 fullbacks to one. My personal preference is Kuhn, your results may vary.

Breno just might fit into this mix, for RT---so we need a roster spot for him, plus Spitz...
I'm not going to be one bit surprised when Cliffy's knee(s) break down again, which will mean the "shift" this year.

Lang IS going to be instrumental in this "mix", btw---(he is presently hurt again)

It boils down to Lang, for me--regarding "going after" another o-lineman next year. I feel good about him, and MAYBE we start getting something out of Breno.

What have you done with the real Foster?

There should be no question of going after another OL next year. You should go after OL every year.

The only difference for next year is that you *might* want to focus on one OL position more or less than usual.

And Spitz is a journeyman at best. I don't care what anyone else says. :horse:

Ahem.

Marshall Newhouse  In the category of hitting the lottery, light a candle and hope the brain trust hit on one.

History would prove otherwise, but for some (very strange) reason I am optimistic.

Moderation in blocking talent is no virtue. Extremism in the pursuit of OL is no vice.

I think we have 14 o linemen right now.

Cliffy, Colledge, Wells, Sitton and Tausch--- 5

Bulaga, Spitz, Lang and Giacomini--- that's 9

Marshall Newhouse, Allen Barbre, Evan Dietrich-Smith, Nick McDonald and Chris Campbell. That makes 14 total.

I said get rid of two FB's---

I'm not married to the concept, but I'm thinking about this o-line when I say it.

Who do you think stays or goes on this line, and did I miss someone--?

I'm scared of keeping only 1 FB unless one of our TEs or OL can play the HBack role at times, whichsince Crabtree is a great blocker maybe he can do it. With that in mind, I find it hard for us to keep more than 9 lineman. There just isn't enough roster space. I think it comes down to Giacomini and Newhouse for the 9th lineman.

Going through the roster and trying to see hwo the 53 fit together to leave room for maybe 10 lineman. Who's our long snapper these days?

I think we should keep 10.

No, I DO NOT want to trade Colledge, I want to BENCH him.

I do think we will keep 2 FB's---I think the Porter pick was dumb, but that's just me, your results may vary.

I meant Johnson--Not him as a player--position-wise--It's as close to a "commodity" position as you can get, imo

That scenario with Bulaga staying at LG is an interesting one, though it would depend on them getting a player in next year's draft who can play LT as a rookie. A tall order, but not impossible. Another possibility, though, is that Clifton manages to play another season after this one, in which case Bulaga would definitely stay at LG and there would be time to break in a new LT or find one in 2012. I like the idea of Lang starting next year, either at LG or RT.

I wouldn't want to keep just one fullback, though. I remember that playoff game against the Rams at the end of the 2001 season, when William Henderson got hurt early and they didn't have another fullback suited up. That really limited the offense. And I don't think any of our TE's would make good fullbacks, even in a pinch. They're too tall.
