No, Dexter took that into consideration. If we don't have Bigby, then we just have Collins and Burnett. We'll have the same backups as last year, who are marginally serviceable as safeties. Hopefully Bigby will be return and Burnett can come in for rotation or in case of injury.

Bigby will be back, probably even by training camp. He's just trying to do what he can to get a contract. Although I don't agree with his approach I can't really blame him. I'm sure his agent is calling most the shots anyway.

But yeah, he will be back. I just hope that Burnette is good enough to take his starting job. Bigby would be some good depth for sure!

If Harris goes on the PUP list, then I'm a little worried about our corners. I hope Lee and Underwood are working hard.

If Bishop really wants PT, he'd better beat out Hawk for it.

I'm a little worried too. But not as worried as I was last year about the Oline. Or the Dline the year before that. Or the RB situation in '07.
We've got some thin spots but no glaring weaknesses. Except maybe the P, but I have a strange feeling that's gonna work itself out.

If Bigby is not back we are in almost the same position we were last year where if there was an injury to one of the two starting safeties, we had no competent backup to come in. Remember the game in MN when Harris was ripping the backup safety a new one. He was in for Bigby. He missed a couple of games we lost. We actually had more losses with Bigby out than with 4 CBs out.

You do know that we drafted a safety in the 3rd round right? Morgan Burnett. He's pretty good.

Yes I do, the Engineer is correct. I was counting Burnette, who I like more than Bigby.

I also feel that Bigby will be back. I think he is rehabbing his ankle like his agent said. He can do that in TX as easily as here. Burnette would still have gotten the reps if he did show.

I think he is waiting until training camp starts. He only missed OTAs and 2 days of mini camp. The fine for missing that is probably more than what it cost him in the tender being reduced. So if he isn't signed he is not absent.

That being said, if Bigby is not signed and something happens, we are in the same position as last year, as far as the safeties go.

I believe Burnett will be the starter before the end of the year. Either way we should have good depth there, Bigby should be back. But next year we'll have to address the situation if Bigby is a free agent.

We've got Collins and Bigby/Burnett as the starters. Behind them, we've got Charlie Peprah, who is not an all pro but can get the job done. He will be in position when the play comes to him. Then there's Blackmon, who is a very intriguing prospect at safety. Dude can't play corner at an elite level, but I think he will be able to play safety. Then there's also Derrick Martin. He's mainly a special teams guy. Should beat out Jarrett Bush, our other ST/S.
That's plenty of depth. I think all those guys can play, except maybe Bush.
Blackmon is a marginal CB, but I think he's got plenty of skill to play S. My only worry is how big of a hitter he's gonna be, but that's of secondary concern.

"Not an all-pro but can play" is a rather generous description for someone who's fighting for a roster spot, after being cut halfway through the season last year because of poor play.

I have no idea what Blackmon will do, but I don't see why he should make leaps forward now. I know, he has athleticism to spare, but that was the reason why he should go up as far as to our nickle back last year.

Collins - Burnett - Bigby is a good, 3 deep set. Collins and Burnett are players of the same mold. They fit perfectly in our defensive scheme. Bigby is just a solid player who can step in when needed and be a decent starter when needed.

Biggest problem is, Burnett is still somewhat of a question mark at the pro level. Bigby tends to get injured.

Now our depth isn't horrible. You can't expect your 4th safety to play at an amazing level, it's way better that last years, that's for sure. It's just that we should hope that no one goes down, because the drop-off to Peprah and/or Blackmon will be huge.

Didn't we waive Peprah injured in camp last year? Also, if Blackmon works out, wouldn't it be freaky if they bulked Bigby up and recast him as an OLB?

Had to check that, I couldn't remember, Peprah is still listed on the roster, I'm thinking he went on iR at some point, but looks like he is still with the team.

I really like our roster. Yes, it would be nice if we could have drafted a CB and an OLB in the Burnett mould, but you can only so much each draft. Hopefully, the young CBs coming back will step up and Harris gets healthy. We have decent possibilities there. At LB we have good back ups.
