23. Green Bay Packers: When it came to keeping the quarterback clean, no playoff team was worse last year than the Packers, who ranked No. 30 in adjusted sacks per pass attempt. Only Oakland and Buffalo were worse. Of course, a lot of that falls on quarterback Aaron Rodgers(notes), who has a tendency to hold the ball too long in an effort to make a play. But the fact is that tackles Chad Clifton(notes) and Mark Tauscher(notes) were near the end last year, yet the Packers were so desperate that they re-signed Clifton to a long-term deal this offseason. At least this group showed that it can run the ball OK, ranking No. 8.

How bad is our OL? Well, homerism aside, I do think the middle of our OL is fine. The problems with our OL have to do with the health of our OTs. They stay healthy, we're better than #23. They get injured, uh oh.

I like our draft. I think it was the right thing to do going with an OT for our 1st round pick and picking up one more in the draft. Cliffy and Tausch won't be around forever. When they both came back last year, our OL was average.

Granted, the author is right putting some of the blame on Aaron. He does try to do too much at times, but he'll learn to get rid of the ball faster.

As for saying we got the 8th best rushing, how much of that falls on Grant? I'd say a lot more than people give him credit for. Grant is a "near elite" RB. Not quite elite, but damn good. Best thing about Grant though is he'll get you 1200+ yards a year without fumbling. How many RBs can say that?

Thoughts?

Seems a little low to me. They have the Packers ranked below the Bears. Also, judging by some of the comments, it looks like he is ranking the current state of OLs, and not ranking their last year's performances. If that's the case, then I think he's way off. He doesn't even mention the addition of a first round draft pick to fix our major problem last year- injuries at OT.

Packers have better talent than Chicago along their offensive line.

The one that gets me is Carolina though. Their offensive line is for sure a top ten unit. Maybe top five.

Didn't Clinton sign a two-year deal? How does yhat qualify as "long term"?

I honestly can't see how Bulaga or Lang could do any worse than either Colledge or Barbre did when they started at Tackle for parts of the first half of last season. Just adding Bulaga and probably having either Spitz or Colledge in a reserve roll should do quite a bit for the Packers offensive line depth. Once you get beyond our starting 5 and Bulaga, Lang, and the loser of the Spitz/Colledge LG battle you've got guys like Gaicomini, Barbre, Dietrich-Smith, Newhouse and any other camp bodies competing for at least one and maybe two more offensive line roster spots.

I'm pretty sure Bryan out of the gate will do better than Babre did, lol.

The first half might have been the worst oline play we've seen in NFL history but the second half, they really came together and were easily a top 15 Oline.

Gotta build on that and keep my secret boyfriend safe.

I think our line this year will be one of the best we've had since our NFC Championship game year. This is as long as Clffy and Tausch stay reasonably healthy. Tausch will at least start out healthier than last year which should give improvement. An upgrade at center would be nice, and I like Wells, he does the best with what he's got. If Spitz could clearly be him out it would be good for the team, if nothing else it should again be better depth. The other young linemen should get better, plus the draft, giving us the area of most improvement and better depth.
Why is Jerry Kramer not in the Hall of Fame?

I'm thinking the OL will be much improved this year.
Hopefully we will have a healthy Cliffy and Tausch for most of the year giving the young guys a chance to develop.
I still like Wells at center.
