Adrian Peterson is missing mandatory camp time to attend "Adrian Peterson Day" in his home state.

Brett Favre is missing from the camp because, well, he's playing his half decade old 'will i or wont i' routine.

Coach Childress had this to say about Adrian's absence.
"The work's here, I just know that there's a bunch of guys here," Childress said. "This has the term 'mandatory' for a reason, and the work's here, period. . . . You can say whatever you want. This is the fourth annual Adrian Peterson Day. I don't know if it's going to be like every year they're going to have that. We're going to have this, too."

Visanthe Shiancoe had this to say about Brett's absence. (who did have surgery on his ankle)
"Brett is a player of his own, of course, there are going to be exceptions for him. Everybody knows that, It's Brett Favre. He's earned the right and everybody else feels the same way, especially after the season he had last year with the interception ratio compared to the completion ratio. I wish I could play like that when I'm 40 years old, 41 years old. He's still running around like he's 28, 27. It's all love for him. We accept him back when he comes back."

lol Good points.

Although, Favre DID have surgery on his ankle. He should be rehabbing that ankle, not running drills with the team.

I think I mentioned Brett had ankle surgery. ;)

He had the surgery May 21st, and full recovery will take 4-6 weeks. That'd put him no sooner than June 21st, and no later than July 2nd.

Although, let's be serious ... surgery or not, he wouldn't be there and everyone knows it. 🙂 And yet no one would complain.

If Adrian were to say "hey why can Brett bail, but I can't?" I'd sit him in the film room and let him see every play he fumbled the ball. Then with a smirk say "What were you saying?" ... and hope he doesn't have the clip of Brett's ill advised cross body, cross field interception queued up!

No doubt about it.. Favre wouldn't be there healthy ankle or not. But it's still a valid excuse. And of course I wouldn't complain. He's 40 years old. He doesn't need the additional wear and tear that the mini-camps would employ. He's proven last year that he didn't need it.. and that was BEFORE he got the timing down with the WRs. So even if he did commit to playing this year I wouldn't want to see him in any mini-camp or even suited up at training camp.

Adrian definitely needs to be working on his ball handling skills, and should be at any mandatory practice the team puts on. Dispite what the media and most fans would like to tell you, this is still AP's team. If he doesn't show, what does that tell the younguns? I know it's a big deal back in Texas for his special 'day', but they can move it to fit around Adrian's schedule, not the other way around.

Is it a double standard that I want AP at camp and could care less about Brett not being there? I feel it's more than just black and white. Favre's a QB. He doesn't need the conditioning that AP needs. He's also proven what he's capable of last year with a new team and coaches without touching any mini/training camp. He's put in his time at camps. At later points in a football player's career, I think you almost HAVE to loosen the reins a bit when it comes to off-season training.

I noticed you said 'black and white', you saying if Adrian was white, like Brett, there wouldn't be an issue?

The thread title is truncated to "Vikings and double" on the front page. I keep thinking it will say "Vikings and double occupancy," which makes sense to me. The 49ers have proposed co-occupying their newly approved stadium with the Raiders as a way to cover costs. Perhaps the Vikings could get a new stadium approved if they co-occupied with the Packers. 😉

That'd be the closest the Vikings would come to being near a champion.

I thought this was going to be a thread about Brandon Underwood trading two unnamed older women to Bryant McKinnie for a free pass on the Love Boat.
