Looks like Nebraska will be joining the Big Ten. I have mixed feelings. I've felt the Big Ten needed to add at least one team for a while now, but I never really saw Nebraska as a choice. I understand the appeal of having Notre Dame, but I really don't care to have them in the conference. I would have liked to have Pitt join, if for nothing else than to give the basketball side of things a little push.

ESPN is saying there's a good chance the Big XII is done if Nebraska leaves. In the end, anything that leaves Iowa State out in the dust, I'm all for.

I like adding Nebraska. They fit the regional footprint of the league. I think part of what apeals to me about college football is its regional caracter. I don't want expansion to jeopardize that.

Isn't the big ten, actually 11 teams and this would make 12?

Why the expansion or moving teams around? What's the pro's and con's to this?

I agree about keeping it in the region, but having Penn State really spreads it out, so I don't mind the idea of a Pitt or Rutgers joining. I HOPE this is all going to mean a championship game for the conference. I'd like the title-sharing to end.

Yes, when Penn State was added it became the 11th team in the conference. If you look at the Big Ten logo, there is a hidden 11.

Yeah.. I heard about this.. First things first... Welcome to the best conference in the NCAA, Nebraska!! I'm actually really excited to hear this news. I never thought there was an snow ball's chance in Hell that Texas would join, and I heard alot about Mizzou and Pitt.. Big Red was one of the schools that seemed to me to be always on the back burner. Of all the Big XII teams (outside of Texas), Nebraska would be the best addition. Now, the big knock I have on Texas is it's location. Really, the ONLY knock on UT, really. Nebraska fits everything, I feel, the Big Ten stands for. I love their tradition and they will definitely be back in the football picture.

Zero, yeah.. The Big Ten does have 11 teams, and this single team would make it 12. They haven't ruled out expanding to a 14 team conference, though. This is only phase one of many. Why expansion? A few reasons. Bigger conferences means more revenue. Also means more exposure. And for football it means that with an even amount of teams, the Big Ten can finally have their own Conference Championship game, which would extend their football season (typically the conference championship games are 2+ weeks long, during said weeks typically there are zero Big Ten games going on, which is a bad thing for the conference). Also the revenue being brought in from the extended season and the Conference Championship game is a bonus as well.

The cons? I personally don't think there are any. Having an odd number of members in the Big Ten is stupid. Scheduling gets weird along with the lack of a championship game.

Could be one con. Depending on how the divisions are aligned, yearly rivalries could be lost. However, I don't think any of the really important ones will be lost. As long as Wisc-Minn is played every year, I don't care.

Because of the B10 tv network I expected the additions to come from out east as there are so many more potential viewers to draw on.

maybe after locking in football powerhouse Nebraska (and this expansion is all about football since football generates so much more money than basketball does) they will pull in a team or two from out east to pay for the picking up of Nebraska.

Interesting.. I'm hearing that an unnamed Big XII coach said that the Big XII was looking at Nebraska as the key to keeping the Big XII intact. Now that they potentially will leave for the Big Ten, it's sounding like the Pac 10 will snipe 6 of the Big XII teams (including Texas, TAMU, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State). With that speculation, I'm predicting at least another 2 teams in addition to Nebraska to be added to the Big Ten. But right now.. My guess is the conference will be divided up evenly right down the middle..

Big10 West: Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Northwestern
Big10 East: Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue, Indiana

Maybe we (Big10) land an eastern school (Pitt, 'Cuse, Rutgers) and ND finally gives up it's independence status.

B10 doesn't need ND anymore. What have they done in the past 10 years? :crybaby:
