We have a thread that touches on this, blow me, I'm making a new one.

What does this mean?

I think ...

[ul]it'll eliminate old ass bands from playing at half time. Old people don't like the cold much.

it opens up the chance for other cities that have open stadiums to hold the Super Bowl (no, Green Bay will never host a SB, too small of a town)

it decreases the chance of those cities who are already in the allotment for hosting the Super Bowl because now there's more stadiums available to be considered.[/ul]

Look at how many more locations of NFL teams we could host the Super Bowl if we had more 'unpleasant' weather locations available.

I'll give you another option.

I don't know how big of an impact this really makes, though. I'm going to guess that not a single cold weather city will get another SB before XLVIII is actually played.

Maybe the league will take another gamble if the Vikings actually get a new stadium, asuming it's roofless.

Ps. I don't mind the old men concerts at half time. Wouldn't mind some newer music, either, but if we're going to hear someone like Lady Gaga at halftime, I'm going to die a little inside.

You are right Rock, in fact I just reread the article I linked in the other thread and saw this nugget: "It could be the last cold play for a long time, as the league made this a onetime exemption to its 50-degree rule."

I forgot about the 50 degree rule. The Twin Cities can't match markets with NY. Well, maybe theater markets, but that's it. NYC has everything else. And that market is pretty much the sole reason they won the bidding. The only way TC gets a Super Bowl is if they have a superplex like Lucas Oil Stadium or the JerryDome.

"Old people don't like the cold"........I bet Brett Favre is upset about this! LOLOL!!!
On a serious note.....i STILL think it's not fair that WE can't host a Super Bowl. Just because we arn't the "big city". Heck, Green Bay is CENTERED around football.
Oh well,.....such is life.

With having a capacity of around 70k in our stadium, I think that might be a drawback as well as there's not many attractions in Green Bay during February.

I agree, it's a shame, because there's not many towns that can and would appreciate the historical significance of the Super Bowl than football fans in Green Bay.

If we had just one Super Bowl here, my lord, it would do WONDERS for the city and the franchise. It would be our opportunity to shine and display what a great town we have.

Another potential issue ... hotels ... we'd be spreading rooms down to Appleton for sure.

I heard that Mark Murphy was kicking around the idea of trying to get a SB played here. Wouldn't that be GREAT?

Green Bay and the state of Wisconsin would love hosting the Super Bowl. It would be a great boost to the state. It would put us on the map in peoples eyes who don't know where or what we are. Wisconsin has a lot to offer and it would be a great opportunity to show case it to the world. I'd be game for a 2018 Super Bowl in Green Bay which would give the city and state plenty of time to prepare and make it great. Green Bay is a very professional city. I don't know how to word that properly to accurately state what I mean. Basically, Green Bay does things with thought, not reactionary.

I know it's a pipe dream, won't ever happen, but thinking about how it 'could' work ... is lots of fun. There's just so much Wisconsin could offer.

Also, I think it MIGHT help with Free Agent's wanting to land in Green Bay. It seems lots of players don't really know where Green Bay is ... they'd know after the Super Bowl for sure and would see how great of a city it is.

Maybe this is why he asked fans about adding to the stadium.

Green Bay and Chicago should both have Super Bowls. For crying out loud they're charter members.
Why is Jerry Kramer not in the Hall of Fame?

Green Bay has a lot to offer, but not for the kind of people who attend the Super Bowl, and especially not in the middle of the winter. I think it would be kind of like when they've held the Super Bowl in Detroit and Jacksonville. Most people would much rather go to Miami, New Orleans, or some other tourist-oriented warm weather city.

beast (31m) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (31m) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.

Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : the Synder years or do they take care of one of their own?

Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Turns 30 this September, plays at a high level and Washington has some cap space I believe
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : More interesting is Washington with Terry McLaurin
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : I would imagine Dallas will resolve this issue with a truckload of money
