This is worth reading, both the Newsweek article and the metafilter thread. Two Russian girls were brought over and were probably going to be forcibly recruited into stripping/prostitution. Enter Metafilter:

That is crazy. But like that Newsweek article ended up saying.. Makes one feel better about people AND the internet.

Here I was thinking it was something along the lines of:

Poster 1 in New York: Help! I had to rush here onto metafilter to get some help! Please someone call 911, a building across from my apartment is on fire!

Poster 2 in LA: Sure, I'll do it!

*Fire services are called, not before certain suspicion over long distance emergency calls, and the fire is put out. Oh and some family pet also survives just in time*

End of story, congratulations and pats on the back around the internets.

As for this, it doesn't read so much of a rescue. Anybody stop and think maybe they WANT to work as "hostesses"?
