A friend mentioned on Facebook a bar in Milwaukee (I think) that had a bartender burn a small statue of Obama. He questioned whether or not the bar would gain/lose patrons. Valid question.

Then he posted 3 links.. One of which was a 'blog' of a teenager who said how mad he was at the bar, how it should be shut down, and called the people in the video racists.

One of the links is here.

Just wanted to share. I have no problem debating my views on where I disagree with the direction Obama and his 'cronies' are taking this country. I know I'll never change anyone's mind, but I'm totally down with having that debate without getting angry. Where I have a problem is the double standards and ignorance of some people. It's ok to bash Bush, call him a bigot and moron and spout other hateful things about him (and I'm ok with that.. He wasn't my favorite person either and you have that right as an American to feel that way), but as soon as someone mentions how they disagree with Obama and hate how he runs things they are branded racists. By the same group of people that spouted off about Bush. Seriously? Glass houses, people.. You can put your stones away.

NOTE: My rant was definitely not directed at anyone here, I have not seen any problems with people here.. It's just the general 'public' I tend to run across in person and on other social sites/forums.

To be fair, they weren't disagreeing with Obama. They were burning him in effigy. You don't burn an image of someone to initiate civil discourse and voice your disagreements. You do it to incite a heated emotional response one way or the other. Being defensive about it afterwards doesn't make any sense to me.
Now is it racist? Not necessarily. And I haven't the slightest idea if the bar owners in general are racists or not. Maybe they are. Maybe they're not. Neither would surprise me, but then again, I live in Massachusetts where there is a shocking amount of old school racist feelings.

I've seen GWB burned in effigy a bunch of times (especially here in San Francisco). Calling Obama burned in effigy racist is just silly.

By the way, it was almost always white people burning GWB. It's always white people burning Presidents in effigy. WTF?

(just kidding)

For the record, I think they both suck and burning people in effigy is protected Free Speech. Even if I liked a President, it's still protected Free Speech. If anyone has a problem with it though, it would be Fire Marshall Bill.

Once again, the wonderful "RACE CARD" is dropped. Like was already said, it was OK for those that hated George Bush to burn him in effigy, call him names, write nasty crap in the "news"papers every day.
But DARE to have ANY kind of protest about "THE CHOSEN ONE", and you will be immediatly labeled a "racist".
Now, if they had the KKK there, or burned a cross on the tavern's lawn, THEN it would be racist.
All this does is make cases of REAL racism be overlooked, because of these B.S. kinds.
I wonder when Jesse Jackson and AL Sharpton will be camping outside of this bar?
You can't disagree with Obama without being labeled a racist.
I dislike what he is doing and what he stands for.

Anyone who thinks it was seen as "ok" to burn GWB in effigy needs to get their panties out of a bunch as badly as the people who are calling this "racist" without knowing the inner motivations of the people. Everyone is so goddamned sensitive. The voice of dissent is the most important voice in a democracy, and everyone always plays the wounded card to defend those in power. I just sort of wish they would be a little more eloquent with their messages than burning dolls, but at least the voice of dissent is still present and strong.

Eloquently put, except this country is not a democracy and never was intended to be one.

The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government.

Maybe what i said was misunderstood. What i meant was those that are getting worked up about the Obama thing are the SAME ones that did the same kind of stuff when it was someone they don't like. But that's the way it usually is. It's ok for them, but not for others.
I myself wouldn't do something as lame as that. Make your points in an adult way. When it gets to this level, you lose any point that might be good that you are trying to make. It just makes you look stupid in my view, and gives "reasons" for those that already hate you something to complain about.
Which takes the people's minds off the lame stuff Obama is doing and puts it on the lame burning.

dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
    Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
