Lang had wrist surgery, no timetable for return

Green Bay - Packers guard T.J. Lang had surgery on his left wrist April 5 and will miss off-season practices, a source confirmed today.

No timetable has been set for Lang's return to the field, the source said.

Lang is expected to be ready by the start of training camp in late July, but the nature of the injury could lengthen the timetable.

Lang, 22, fractured the scaphoid bone in his wrist during practice in December. The injury didn't improve during the offseason, so surgery was the next step. According to online medical journals, blood supply to the scaphoid bone can often be tricky and is essential for recovery.

But Packers doctors feel good about the surgery and that Lang will have a full recovery in time for training camp.

When healthy, Lang, who is coming off an impressive rookie campaign as a fourth-round pick, will compete with Daryn Colledge and Jason Spitz at left guard, and backup Mark Tauscher at right tackle.

Safety Derrick Martin also needed surgery to rectify the ankle injury he had last season. He will also miss off-season practices, which start Monday.

The surgeries for Lang and Martin were first reported by ESPNMilwaukee.com.

A handful of other players may be held back to start off-season practices, including Spitz, who had back surgery last season.

The article didn't say he's getting a pin, and I hope he isn't, because that will significantly reduce his range of motion -- and make bending his wrist backward painful.

What other surgery would one do on a break other than to pin it? Especially in that region?

If it is not healing in a cast or via immobilization.. one has to foster that healing in some regards correct?

No I am no a doctor.. speaking from personal experience.. that and I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express this past fall.. lol.

Not an auspicious start for our OL.

P.s. There has to be a God. Who else would have been able to derive a complicated system like the wrist from first principles. Amazing pic, pack93z! +1

A doctor I worked with my first tour in Iraq was fond of telling patients, "The shoulder is God's great practical joke on mankind." The head of the humerus is so damn big that the shoulder joint is inherently unstable.
