From what I gathered, he asked if Dez's mother was a prostitute. He didn't call her a whore or any other name. There's a difference. I don't see it as a 'price'. I see it as a question about one's mother's occupation prior to potentially signing said person to a multimillion dollar deal.

Ultimately, those dollars are going to support Dez and his family. Probably for decades. I'm willing to bet he won't even remember the question being asked in 2 years from now.. much less 20.

Curious.. what difference does it make what his mother does for employment?

We have scores of players.. highly successful and model players in the NFL that had one parent or the other in jail or what not.. hell probably a decent percentage of players have a broken relationship with one or both of their parents.

I fail to see the relevance of such a disrespectful question.

Turn the tables a bit... tomorrow you have a job interview .. one of the questions relates to your wife or mother.. a personal question.. would you find it an acceptable question for your employment?

I know for damn sure I won't... and it would be the end of the interview.. they can shove that opportunity up their ass.. regardless of the compensation.

Your hiring me.. on my merits of doing the job required... and that I represent the company well. Me.. no other.. unless they are going to start employing us all..

If they are going to pay me the money that Dez is going to get.. they can ask whatever questions they want. I know only I control my actions, and I know that despite the company's lack of tact I will do what I get paid for.. Meanwhile, a good portion of that company's money will go towards supporting whomever they inquired about. Irony, my friend.

As far as why he asked the question.. I have no clue. But like I said, in some instances it was a justified question (I'm not disputing that it could have been asked in a more tactful manner), but even unjustified.. that money is probably worth it.

Not to mention, that's probably not the first time Dez had to deal with that sort of stuff.. and it most certainly won't be the last. He can laugh all the way to the bank.

Definition of your price.. millions of dollars to accept something that under normal conditions you would find unacceptable.

With 31 other teams available to me with similar benefit packages... I would have told him to shove that question up his ass.. no if and buts about it.

Under normal conditions I would have asked why the question. Define unacceptable.. Personally, I don't have a close relationship to my mother, so I probably would have laughed at the question and answered it. Now my dad, I'm close to. And even if someone implied that he was something horrible that he wasn't, I would promptly correct them and attempt to move on. I guess it could have been an unacceptable comment/question.. But I guess I'm more transparent than others, as I wouldn't have been all that offended by it. And with the money coming my way, I definitely wouldn't have minded the question and would immediately forget it.

I would have reached over the table and punched him in the face. Then told him that I'm the pimp and prostitute!

When I first heard about the incident I thought it was out of line for Jeff Ireland to ask Dez Bryant this question. Then you hear or read about the alleged context of the interview and things begin to make more sense. If the interview did go in that direction, then I think it was an okay thing to ask. If not, then it's an out of line question. It all depends on whether or not the context of the interview is what has been reported.

None the less it's done and over with. Miami didn't draft him so I don't see this as that big of a deal. I have no problem with having teams ask what a player's parents did for a living. It's not as if that's an uncommon question.

If the Dolphins had completely removed this guy from their board--per my recommendation, they would have had no need to even talk to him.

Dad is a pimp, mom is a twice-convicted crack dealer, and people are wringing their hands over this question? I'm sure this has greatly upset the sensibilities of all involved.

child, please.

If she wasn't flat-backing for dad, what WAS she doing? I'd like to hear that answer.

A) "Slappin' the ho's" for non-payment on the tricks?

B) Keeping the ho's supplied with crack at "company store" prices?

C) For you PC / liberal / hand-wringers-- Ensuring the young ladies of the evening spiritual needs were being satisfied in the midst of the hardships endured by life's circumstances due to the failure of those in authority to adequately assist the downtrodden...

It simply comes down to this..

1. Truly what rationale could be used to legitimately need to ask such a question? It is Dez not Mom and Pop that is being employed, his parents legal woes has been documented quite well.. if it is a problem.. simply remove him from your first round board.

2. Being a high level NFL exec.. frame your question if you can justify the first question better. My opinion, it sheds more light on the lack of professionalism of Ireland and therefore the Dolphins than anything.

I am hardly a PC liberal in any shape or form.. but I expect better from a man in Ireland''s position.. is it too much to ask for common respect and professionalism?

That absolutely has everything to do with Dez.. and is not not disrespectful to him or his family.

I think it is pretty freaking simple.. judge someone on their merits.. their actions and what they may or may not do going forward. Things they control.

When building a friendship/relationship with someone.. you base your opinion upon that person for what they do, their actions and choices.. not that of their father or mother.

Now.. if Dez was pimping out his mother.. have at him. But the simple fact that her choices have very little to do with Dez himself, it is not like a 10 year old Dez could stop his mother or father from doing what they choose to do.

Ireland is a fully educated NFL executive.. one that should be able to understand where the lines of respect reside.. and if he can't, then he shouldn't be representing the NFL nor the Dolphins.

His questioning is more in line with an interrogation [strike]and[/strike] than a job interview... personally I think it is becoming an ego trip from some of these fucks.. seriously.. questions like briefs or a thong? Is your momma a Ho?

Come on.. those questions serve little purpose in evaluating a prospect.. other than to flex the muscle of the person asking it.

beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger

Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
