I was pretty under whelmed by our 5th round pick Marshall Newhouse.

However after doing some reading I wonder if we might have found a player, and not only that, but a guy with the attributes to be a LT.

Most OL drafted at the end of round 5 are OG only prospects. But Newhouse has LT measurables:

He played four years at LT.

He has 34 inch arms.

He has the size at 6 4", 320 lbs.

He has the feet. He was the best OL at the Combine in the 3-Cone Drill at 7.40. He came 3rd in the Short Shuttle and 3rd in the 40 yard dash.

He has the smarts. LTs need brains and average the highest Wonderlic after QBs - he got 32.

He has NFL bloodlines. Uncle played FB for the Cowboys, father played college ball at Houston.

Pre draft the guy has been tagged as a definite sleeper pick:

Some say that Marshall Newhouse is the most NFL ready offensive lineman in the draft. I believe it.

Newhouse might project as a tackle in the NFL with his impressive athleticism.

Newhouse's stock is rising as more people see what he can do. At 6-4 and 320, he has 5.0-40 speed and the kind of agility that has some people thinking he could kick out to left tackle.

Sleepers: Marshall Newhouse, (G), Texas Christian, 6-4, 319: The ideal developmental prospect because of his strength and athletic ability.

Steals: Marshall Newhouse/Rd 5 No. 169/Green Bay: Newhouse is a tad short for the offensive tackle position but moves well and blocks with solid fundamentals. He is similar in style and substance to Chad Clifton, the Packers present starter at left tackle.

Bengals message board:
Based on his resume and athletic ability it seems that Marshall Newhouse is underrated. The draft sites I looked at had him all over the board, but by the time draft day gets here I think he will go in the 4th round. It still seems like he will be a great value there.

For those that don't know Newhouse has been the starting LT for one of the most explosive offenses in the nation the last 3 years at TCU. He was good enough to earn All-Conference honors every year he started including First Team in '09. Rivals had him as a 3rd Team All-American in '09 and SI had him as an Honorable mention.

He is big (6'3", 328) but not long like an NFL tackle, so he has been projected as an OG as a pro. However at the East West Shrine Game he impressed scouts and played every position on the O-line except center.

He followed that up with a great showing at the combine where he finished first among O-linemen in the 3-cone drill and third in both the forty yard dash and the short shuttle. he also did 25 Bench reps.

Finally, he has good football genes.. His father played college ball at Houston and his uncle was Robert Newhouse the famous Dallas Cowboy FB.

So where have you guys seen him projected to go in the draft? I think he would be a steal with our 4th round comp pick (131?).

I think any time for Newhouse at LT will come no earlier than next year. Maybe if we hadn't drafted Bulaga, then he starts out at LT.

Personally, I think barring Bluaga being a bust, I doubt Newhouse is mentioned as a LT candidate.

Especially with Lang now being solidified as a RT, Newhouse seems to be best slotted in a G.

OK, so he doesn't beat out Bulaga.

But once Clifton is done we'll need a backup LT otherwise we'll be in the same position as last year.

Man with a little luck I can really see this line being a strength soon, and for a long period of time. We got Bulaga and Lang as our Tackles with Sitton and Spitz as guards, thats some serious young talent right there.
Clifton and Tausch should kill us enough quality time to get these youngins up to speed and ready to dominate for the next 10 years!
We are born naked, wet and hungry. Then things get worse.

He'll back up LT. Probly put him at RG this year, to take Colledge's job.

A 32 is a pretty good score. However, OTs are smarter than QBs.

According to Paul Zimmerman, OTs average 26, Cs average 25, and QBs average 24.

Mucky Tundra (33m) : Funny observation I've heard: Carson Wentz was on the sideline for both Eagles Super Bowl wins w/guys supposed to be his back up winning
Zero2Cool (6h) : NFL thought it would get more attention week preceding Super Bowl.
Zero2Cool (6h) : Yes, the Pro Bowl. It was played Sunday before Super Bowl from 2010-2022
packerfanoutwest (6h) : pro bowl
Zero2Cool (6h) : From 2010 to 2022, it was played on the Sunday before the Super Bowl
Zero2Cool (6h) : They moved it to the BYE week before Super Bowl several years ago.
packerfanoutwest (6h) : it was always after the SB.....
beast (15h) : Though I stop following pro bowl years ago
beast (15h) : I thought the pro game was before the Super Bowl?
packerfanoutwest (16h) : ok now for the Pro Bowl Game in Hawaii
TheKanataThrilla (17h) : If I was Philly I would try to end it instead of punting it
Mucky Tundra (17h) : VICTORY! We have (moral) victory!
TheKanataThrilla (17h) : Hey they mentioned that we 3-peted
Mucky Tundra (18h) : seems to me the 49ers should have traded Aiyuk when they had the chance
Mucky Tundra (18h) : if the Eagles get it down to the 1, do they Tush Push or give it to Barkley?
TheKanataThrilla (18h) : 49ers have a money problem if they want to sign their QB
Mucky Tundra (18h) : Wait for real? Didn't he just get an extension two years ago?
Zero2Cool (18h) : 49ers gonna trade Deebo. Interesting
TheKanataThrilla (18h) : Replays always never seem to show the holdings
TheKanataThrilla (18h) : Great throw by Hurts
Mucky Tundra (18h) : Where Carter falls prey to bad off the field influences (to be clear, not saying he'd clip someone though)
Mucky Tundra (18h) : Had Carter not gone to Philly were they already had a lot of old college friends, he ends up in a similar spot to Aaron Hernandez
Mucky Tundra (18h) : I think some of his coaches told scouts to stay away
Mucky Tundra (18h) : the street racing incident+conditioning and motivation problems
beast (18h) : Then Carter was street racing, where the other car crashed and people died... and other teams were scared to pick Carter for some reason
beast (18h) : I think the Saints traded up, giving their next year 1st to the Eagles, and then they sucked and Eagles got the 10th overall pick
packerfanoutwest (18h) : wtf Barkley?
TheKanataThrilla (18h) : Getting Carter and Nolan Smith in the first round in 2023 was pretty darn good
Mucky Tundra (18h) : for some reason i'm thinking of a draft where the Eagles where in the mid 20s and a top player fell all the way to them
TheKanataThrilla (18h) : I think so. I would need to look it up. Think it may have been Carolina's pick.
Mucky Tundra (18h) : i'm not sure who i'm thinking of now
Mucky Tundra (18h) : oh fuck me i messed that up
Zero2Cool (18h) : Jordan Davis was 13th overall
Zero2Cool (18h) : Carter was 9th overall
Zero2Cool (18h) : Eagles had 15th and 10th selections, moved to 13 and 9 to get Davis and Carter back to back
Zero2Cool (18h) : Eagles traded up for Carter, didn't they?
Mucky Tundra (19h) : Obviously he was a huge risk but getting a top 5 talent on the dline in the mid 20s is fortuitous
Mucky Tundra (19h) : Jalen Carter falling into their lap certainly helps
TheKanataThrilla (19h) : And we could only wish to have this type of D
TheKanataThrilla (19h) : It's not like Philly has had low draft picks, but has managed to get themselves a top notch pass rush. We spend so much draft capital of D
packerfanoutwest (19h) : another crap halftime show
TheKanataThrilla (19h) : I think it is over, but then I think of Atlanta and want Philly to go in with the same intensity in the second half
Mucky Tundra (19h) : And with a Pass Rush that might as well be on a milk cartoon and no Jaire
Martha Careful (19h) : I cant help but feel good about how well the Packers D played in Philly during the playoffs
Mucky Tundra (19h) : this game is over
Mucky Tundra (19h) : This might be the kill shot here
Mucky Tundra (19h) : oh that's such a bad penalty for KC after getting the 3rd down stop
TheKanataThrilla (19h) : Philly DL has come to play
TheKanataThrilla (19h) : Ceoper DeJean with the INT scored...bad memories of draft night
Mucky Tundra (19h) : ok scratch that
