Faneca was a tough "read" in 2007. He started out good with the Steelers, but then slipped during the season. I remember the big Randy Moss discussion that previous off-season. I didn't give a rat's ass about Moss, and stayed out of the hundred page threads...
Faneca was different. He was ignored by Packer fans as an option, but I was as passionate about wanting him as the "Moss people" were about Randy the previous year.
The Steelers line went to shit after they let Faneca go. I think he was just the right kind of guard for that unit. It just goes to show (for me, anyway) that the sum of the parts makes the whole on an offensive line.
I was wrong about Faneca. Ted made the right decision--or no decision, however you want to put it. His production HAD slipped in 2007, and he has been decent as a run blocker, yet sub-par as a pass blocker for the Jets the past couple of years...
Yet I have this sneaking suspicion that the Jets are going to miss him, just as I still feel that the Steelers missed him.
All that being said, I think it wise to pass on him. I would like to get a guard on that left side that can really play the position in all aspects, and he isn't it...not the 2010 version, anyway.
At least I think that's what I think, lol
