I think this is a very wait and see pick for you guys. You got some good first rounders last year but Bulaga is full of question marks - from top 10 projections to 3rd round. I think I read somewhere that he was a fit in the ZBS though, which I believe GB still runs...

I have a lot of faith in the GB coaches and management though, so hopefully this'll shake out. I do think some of the enthusiasm should be tempered though. It strikes me as a 'needs' pick more than 'best player available', and one of the things with needs picks is that you might end up with the same need again next year. Hope that's not the case.

I have a ton of faith in all coaches on the Packers staff not named Campen.. which is my only fear with Lang, Bulaga, and Newhouse... Campen/Fonteno's track record of development is less than stellar.

zoog, where did you see Bulaga projected as a 3rd round, I never saw him out of the first? Just curious.

I had the same question. In fact, I didn't see any mocks that had him falling as far as he did. That makes it hard to see him as merely a "needs" pick.

I'd agree, i think the furthest I saw him slide was to #15, unless it was months ago or something I find it hard to believe he was ever projected to go somewhere in the 3rd.

Hm - well, I might have him confused with another OT. But I remember reading on some SI.com mock drafts that did have him in the first round, with the caveat that some scouts had given him only a 3rd round grade. So in this case, the fact that he fell isn't quite like say, a top talent like Dez Bryant slipping due to character concerns, but more like there were different opinions on his talent level.

But it's possible I'm confusing him with someone else.

Here's the article I'm talking about:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/don_banks/04/14/mock.draft.1/index.html

An important caveat for this pick right off the bat: Bulaga has slipped down some teams' draft boards and there's real volatility regarding opinions about his potential. One talent evaluator even told me some clubs have given him a third-round grade. The rub seems to be the tapes that show him getting soundly beat by some of the best pass-rushers in this year's draft. But unless Seattle decides it has to pull the trigger on Clemson running back C.J. Spiller this early, replacing left tackle Walter Jones remains the priority.

Granted, it has him going at #6 here.

I read that too about him getting beat by some of the better pass rushers ...
someone said it ie Ted Thompson or MM that "everyone has bad days" lol least they are positive about their pick

The kid had also lost 10 lbs from thyroiditis and was trying to recover during those two back to back games.

Schofield and, I think, Odrick had really good games against him BUT as said above that was during his recovery. These area also two outstanding players. Odrick was first round and Scofield fourth even with a blown ACL. In fact I would have loved to get Schofield in the sixth or seventh, that would have been an absolute steal.
Why is Jerry Kramer not in the Hall of Fame?
