I would rather just have Ahman Green

No thanks!

Ahman Green has nothing left IMO

Westbrook would be a huge upgrade over Green if he can remain healthy

Why the heck not sign him to a cheap 1-year deal and see what he has left in the tank? You can probably cut him at the end of camp and be no worse for wear.

Our RB corps the last few years behind Grant have been pretty pedestrian outside of showing an occasional flash here or there not to mention being injury prone.

No sense in sitting pat with the group of guys we have hoping they'll eventually pan out. Sign Westbrook and draft a RB and let them duke it out with the incumbents for the two spots behind Grant in camp and may the best players make the team.

I would sign him to an incentive weighted contract, then if it doesn't work out it hasn't cost much.

my 2 cents:

Keep Grant, let Green and Jackson go, get Westbrook, draft an RB in the 2nd.

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.

I've been thinking about that, as well. The only problem I have is that there's a pretty big chance that Westbrook will be injured this year. Jackson would be perfect to step in as a 3rd down back.

What I wouldn't mind to see is that we'd sign Westbrook, keep both Grant and Jackson and move around the board a little to draft Joe McKnight in the third.

If Joe exceeds expectations, you could always cut Jackson later on. If we can keep 3 FBs, we can certainly keep 4 HBs on te roster. Hall should be gone and we might go with just 4 receivers this year. McKnight or Jackson might become Breno's bench buddy this year, but it'll be worth the pick.

Another thing about this Westbrook situation. It's in the news section on NFL.com, and that site's news section is pretty notorious for only posting things which are 90-100% about to come true. Think about it...if we have rumor-dudes and inside guys here at this site...multiply that by infinity and I'd guess that's what they've got over there.

Oh, we're in talks. No doubt about it. Schefter just tweeted about it, as well.  It's still early, though. Anything could happen.

It is only preliminary talks and it is still early in the process, but the Green Bay Packers have contacted free-agent RB Brian Westbrook.

I don't understand all the Ahman Green love on this board. Take off the nostalgia goggles and look at him objectively. He doesn't merit a roster spot for the sole reason that he used to be an excellent back for the Packers.

Now I would love to see Westbrook on this team, precisely because he is such a versatile player (he WAS the Eagles' offense for several years), but only with a contract that makes him easy to cut with a minimum of consequences. He has been injury prone recently and I don't want to see the Packers on the hook for big bucks for a guy who isn't contributing.

Why let Jackson go? He's cheap and dollar for dollar, he produces. He's good at picking up blocks and when healthy is a decent runner. Not good, but decent.

I like Westbrook. But look at his price tag.

Whether we're taking Westbrook or not, I don't think we should draft a running back any higher than the fourth round.

I don't understand that whenever someone sees a flashy prospect, they suddenly forget we have bigger needs right now. We're an offensive line and a trustworthy secondary away from being a Super Bowl team. If we can fix them, we're in, so why use early picks on players that can't help us as much as a need position player would.

beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.

Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
