My eyes feel like two deflated basketballs this morning. My cousin Randy (remember him from our 4-wheeling escapades) and his wife came over from Helena Saturday. His wife is staying with us this week as Randy has to fly to Minneapolis for business meetings.
So.....Saturday afternoon the girls go shopping and us guys tune in some NCAA games. Come 5:00 pm and the girls get home and we have to head out to a performance of Grease. Big whoopee! Randy and I had just barely made a dent in our beer cache. Oh well, appease the ladies I guess.
Yesterday the girls announce they are spending the day shopping again and probably won't be back until supper time. Oh man, the Gods are shining on us guys. Right at 10:10 AM our time, the Gonzaga game starts. Now it's non-stop basketball until the cows come home......or the wives....whichever happens first. It's back to back to back to back games. Pure heaven for Randy and me, and Murphi, our little girl Yorkie pup we got as a surprise Christmas present from our kids.
We made one beer run at halftime of one of the games....don't even know who was playing...and some snacks for us and Murphi. I didn't know Yorkies liked Nachos! About 5:30 the wives pull up just as the last game is ending. Randy is asleep on the couch...well, one eye is open to catch scores...I'm just about in never never land, and Murphi is on her back on the couch between us, legs in the air, finishing up her 3rd Miller MGD. The gals announce "dinner is ready" which amounts to some hamburgers and fries. We are gracious enough to sit at the kitchen table and eat with our lovely ladies and make small talk about how screwed the brackets are now.
As we finish eating, Randy goes into the family room and turns the TV back on. There is a loud yell from that area and the conversation went something like this:
Randy: "Bob, the Womens NCAA tourney is on ESPN. A game's just starting."
Bob: "You got to be kidding. Let's watch it. Whose playing?"
Our wives, in unison: "OK dumb-asses. That's it. We're going down to Lucky Lil's and gamble all your hard earned money away."
HA!!! Little do they know we both picked Northern Iowa to get to the 3rd round. We're good for at least $100 each just from this.
Anyone for a Weenie Roast?
