Cornerback Will Blackmon, one of seven Green Bay Packers restricted free agents as of last weekend, took himself off the market by signing his one-year qualifying offer.

A source with access to the NFL's transaction wire said Blackmon signed the deal Monday, the first day of the Packers' off-season workout program. It's not surprising Blackmon signed so early because he is coming off major knee surgery and probably won't receive any interest around the league.

The Packers offered him a one-year, $1.176 million tender, which places the compensation for signing him at a fourth-round pick, the same round in which he was drafted in 2006. By signing the offer, Blackmon can take part in the workout program knowing his salary is protected if he gets hurt at the team's facility.

Players without contracts cannot take part in the activities unless they reach a protection agreement with the club, so it's not unusual for them not to be there. The only player known to have an agreement protecting him is fullback John Kuhn, who has the lowest tender of the remaining restricted free agents.

The others are guards Daryn Colledge and Jason Spitz, safety Atari Bigby, end Johnny Jolly and cornerback Tramon Williams, all of whom are pursuing long-term deals with the Packers or someone else.

They have until April 15 to seek an offer with another team. If they don't get one, they become exclusive rights of the Packers. Some will sign after April 15 so they can take part in the off-season program with their salary protected.

Money matters: The four-year deal nose tackle Ryan Pickett signed is worth $24.925 million and includes a $2 million signing bonus and a $6.4 million roster bonus, both paid this season, a source with access to NFL salary information said.

His first-year salary can be as high as $9.9 million.

His base salaries are: $1.2 million in 2010, $2.7 million in '11, $4.5 million in '12 and $5.4 million in '13. The deal also includes $800,000 in workout bonuses ($200,000 each year) and $700,000 in likely-to-be-earned incentives ($100,000 this year, $400,000 next year and $100,000 in '12 and '13).

Meanwhile, offensive tackle Mark Tauscher's two-year deal is worth $8,262,500, the source said. This year, he'll receive a roster bonus of $2,081,250, a base salary of $1.4 million and a workout bonus of $200,000 for a total of $3,681,250 in first-year earnings.

In '11, he has a base salary of $4.1 million, a roster bonus of $281,250 and a workout bonus of $200,000.

Love that Blackmon is back in the fold. I think he can be the dime back and a damn fine one. His return game is also a welcome site since the PR's sucked after he went down.

That being said, he needs to produce otherwise he may not make the cut, especially if a rookie (or 2) is drafted.

I am a BIG TIME Blackmon fan and hope he can turn his career around (and shake those injuries).

I think that he has the tools to be a very good CB. His athleticism and attitude standouts to me. He is a 110% team guy and will do what ever the team asks of him (remember he played WR his Sr. year because BC needed him to and he lost MAJOR $$ and stock because he did that).

Ha, that's the first thing I think of when his name is brought up. How unselfish he is. Also too about his comments his 2nd year about everyone in the NFL is a good athlete, it's a separation of intelligence that separates the better players from the not so good players. I thought that was interesting.

He played all 16 games in '08 and got 2 punt return TDs. He also gave us a decent 21 yard average on KO returns that year. This was an element we were missing last year that I'd like to see again.

Yes, injuries are a concern, but they happen. I wish the guy best and hope he plays all 19 games this year and has the same success as a returner.

As for a CB, he's decent depth.

dfosterf (18-Aug) : We do have good depth at running back imo. Still so frustrating. Bitching about it is a futile excercise, which I plan to do anyway.
Mucky Tundra (17-Aug) : Whoops, I thought Zero was saying it was a surprise the Brewers lost and not Lloyd being hurt
Mucky Tundra (17-Aug) : Not a surprise; inevitable

Zero2Cool (14-Aug) : Packers RB Josh Jacobs ranked No. 33 in NFL 'Top 100'
dfosterf (13-Aug) : The LVN Musgrave collision- Andy Herman said Musgrave seemed to be the one most impacted injury-wise
dfosterf (13-Aug) : a lower back injury
dfosterf (13-Aug) : Doubs says he's "fine" after injury scare. Some reported it as z
Mucky Tundra (13-Aug) : With LVN that is; need to see what happens in the next practice
Mucky Tundra (13-Aug) : beast, reading about what happened, it sounded like one of those "two guys collide and are moving slow afterwards" type of deals
beast (12-Aug) : I believe Musgrave has been injured every single season since at least a Sophomore in highschool
packerfanoutwest (12-Aug) : Matt LaFleur: “Highly unlikely” Jordan Love plays more this preseason
dfosterf (12-Aug) : Doubs, Savion Williams, LVN, Musgrave all banged up to one degree or another, missing one here I forget

Zero2Cool (12-Aug) : zero help, dominated. preseason

buckeyepackfan (10-Aug) : Just posted to re-up on our FFL.
Zero2Cool (10-Aug) : If healthy after, then thats all I care. Well, no drops would be nice
wpr (10-Aug) : I made it through the 1st Q.
dfosterf (10-Aug) : Just gotta figure out how.
dfosterf (10-Aug) : Could have been a worse start, so there is that.

Mucky Tundra (10-Aug) : Sooooooo many penalties
Mucky Tundra (10-Aug) : It may only be preseason, but this game is a trip to the dentist

Mucky Tundra (9-Aug) : THE GREEN BAY PACKERS ARE PLAYING FOOTBALL TONIGHT!!!!!! THIS IS NOT A DRILL!!!!
Zero2Cool (9-Aug) : Woo-hoo
TheKanataThrilla (9-Aug) : NFL Network is broadcasting the game tonight, but not in Canada. Not sure why as no local television is showing the game.
beast (8-Aug) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Apparently it is too complicated for several to follow your simple instructions, but I digress
