OK, I did a little research and my findings contradict my earlier statement. Granted, I think we all agree that of our 2 biggest needs - one of them is to protect Aaron Rodgers. Assuming we all agree on this, how to go about it?

Well, my research was looking at All Pro OL in the past few years. Almost every single one was drafted in the 1st or 2nd round.

So, I officially change my stance. I'm hoping we draft OL in the 1st or 2nd round. It is a need, and perhaps our most serious need of all. It may also be the end of TT's job here if Aaron gets sacked 30 times in the first 8 games and the 31st sack in the 9th game puts him out for the season (and essentially destroys our Playoff hopes in '10). And fyi, that would be a bad thing as I think Ted Thompson is a better than average GM.

One of the things I am (personally) hoping for is that some team convinces themselves that Colledge is worth a 2nd round tender.

This may or may not be related to this particular thread, but it would sure help with some flexibility IF we wanted to make a move "up".

I DO have some animosity towards Colledge, and some of it has gotten more personal / character / whatever this off-season, but honestly, I want the PLAYER Colledge

OFF THIS TEAM. Period.

This is a change of stance on my part, in that I have previously had a desire to retain him, in much the same way I have been an advocate for Tausch (At not nearly the same level of advocacy for Colledge as Tausch)

Even if we do not use that pick to help my personal desire to get a legitimate LT prospect, I still would like for this to happen.

I LOVE the 2nd round in this draft as presently prognosticated / guessed to fall for many positions of "need" for this team, the unfortunate exception being the position of Left tackle--again, speaking 2nd round.

Now, if you were to tell me that Anthony Davis was going to be there for us in the 2nd round, which is where he should BE, (imo) but WILL NOT, I'd retract my whole "no real good LT prospect in the 2nd" theory.

Colledge at LG, I do not want.
Colledge focusing out of the gat at LT, I'm okay with seeing how it goes for at most one season.

Considering Lang has his technique down, I don't think nine pounds is that big of a deal. If you're technique is sound, you commit very few mistakes and you get your assignment done, you're a good player regardless of nine pounds.

Ron Wolf developed offensive lineman via later picks and Ted Thompson has attempted to do the same. He's had mild success with Josh Sitton and potentially with T.J. Lang, but for the most part he's missed on many guys.

I certainly expect a tackle in the early rounds. I consider rounds one, two and three to still be the early rounds.

However, it's not first-round or bust for the Packers now because they've covered their tracks with two veterans. There are really three tackles that jump out to me in this draft. Bulaga and Okung are 1A and 1B. Davis is next in line. He's the youngest of the group and has the measurables. Lots of potential. I'd be shocked if anyone of those three are on the board when Green Bay picks.

If Green Bay has a shot at Brandon Graham or Trent Williams/Charles Brown/Bruce Campbell, I'd go for Graham. I wouldn't sacrifice the farm for a tackle, especially since I think the interior line will continue to improve and Aaron Rodgers will also improve as well.

I personally think there was more unmined truth to DakotaT's last post than most of you have considered. It would not surprise me in the least to see our first two or three rounds consist primarily of defensive backs, with our first OL pick arriving in the fourth round or so.

If I thought we were looking for a right tackle/Guard type I would agree with that to some degree. We have a lot of personnel presently to at least give us a legitimate shot at shoring up those positions. The problem arises (4th round tackle) is when you get to the nitty-gritty of the "who", as in who would likely be available in round 4. I keep looking, and I am not liking who I see--- For a LEFT tackle.

If you think we are going to develop one of the right tackle types into a left tackle, I would like to hear who those prospects are in order to more effectively evaluate this theory.

My theory is that all the great left tackle prospects are gone by the end of the first round. Someone might fall to our pick in the 2nd, but I doubt it, so again, just tell us who you might think will be there in the 4th.

No matter who you pick will have some serious flaws, imo.--That is, if you stick reasonably close to the mock/guessers/"experts"/draftniks opinions on where the OT's will go in this draft.

This is where it gets complicated. One has to start considering that we don't really have enough information, recognize that most of what is out on the web is basically everyone rehashing what others have said, no real game tape, etc.

So, who we gonna take?

Who? Who? Who?

That pick sucks, imo

As I said earlier in this thread, I did some research hoping to disprove you but instead, my research proved you were indeed correct. Solid OTs are generally 1st round picks or 2nd round picks. Not always, but historically most of the time. They almost never are past the 2nd round.

I never said I thought we'd pick up a premium OT, much as we'd all like to see that happen. I said I wouldn't be surprised if we wait to pick OL until the later rounds, in which case we won't be drafting premium talent but rather relying upon serviceable talent, which seems to have been Ted Thompson's MO in recent years. I'm not saying I agree with it. I would love to see the old swamp fox draft someone to anchor our line for the next ten years, but if we draft a safety, it won't astonish me at al.
