So much for a torn ACL and a subpar season before the injury.

Defensive end turned linebacker turned defensive end Aaron Kampman will earn big money in Jacksonville.

Michael C.Wright of the Florida Times-Union reports that Kampman inked a four-year deal worth $26 million, with $11 million guaranteed.

As Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com points out, the deal matches the package received by new Lions defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch.

Glad to see him get a nice deal coming off of that injury. I've always liked kamp and i think its good for both parties here, i was a bit worried about Kampy back there as an OLB in 2010, and would love to see Jones develop there or possibly a higher round rookie take the role and run with it.

Well as the Steelers found out last season, when a team loses a free agent over 30 years old the maximum compensatory pick granted is a 5th round.

So they should be able to get a Tony Moll or Martin Ingle with that pick.

The Packers have salaries going up and now don't have to carry his 6 million a year salary.

A casualty of the 3-4 transition it is a shame.

Change is costly.

Kampman could still get us a 3rd round compensatory pick in the 2011 draft.

The cap on 5th rounders for over 30 year olds only applies to players with 10 or more years in the league.

AK only has 8 so the pick could be as high as a third rounder, depending on his contract (large) and how many free agenct we pick up (as well as a few more factors I imagine).

I know it didn't help the Packers in anyway.. but I for one am glad they allowed Kampman to find his own path this offseason.

The guy has never not done the right thing by Green Bay... even when faced with change last season.. he never said one negative thing all along.. sure he didn't speak much either... but he could have become a major distraction to the Packers.

Good luck my friend.. wish you nothing but luck going forward.. except against the Pack. 😉

I think this could lead to a Joey Porter signing (hopefully).

Looks like I gotta change my frickin' sig now. Players really need to consider stuff like that when free agency comes up! Haha!

Sad to see him go, but he needs to be in a defensive system that he feels comfortable in and where he can do the most damage, and I'm glad it's in the AFC.

I'm not getting the Porter love - the guy's gone downhill every season for the past 3-4 seasons. Ignoring his pain-in-the-ass attitude and the fact he's looking for far more than he's worth, why are we assuming he'll give us anything but a smidge of situational pass rushing?

Before I signed a cat like Porter... I would investigate the asking price for Keith Bulluck.

He would have to make some adjustments into the 3-4 but playing outside and as stout as he has been at the LOS, it would be a fit IMO.

Talk about a team leader on the defense.. he could bring some of that to the table.

He is coming off an ACL.. and probably won't be ready at the opener.. he could learn through training camp and as he rehabs and make a Tauscher like addition to the club mid-season.
