There are multiple 'mid level' tenders.
High - 1st and 3rd.
Mid - 1st.
Mid - 2nd.
Low - Where drafted.

As I've said in the past, I'd love for Ted Thompson to target one of these RFA OTs out there (as long as the compensation wouldn't be higher than a 1st rounder) and get Clifton's replacement that way instead of wasting more money re-signing an injury prone 33 year-old LT whose best years are clearly behind him. There's a good chance any worthwhile OT will be off the board by the time the Packers pick at 23.

Best case scenario, you get a younger proven talent at LT who fits your scheme while giving up your first rounder you probably would have used to pick an OT anyways any monetarily wise, it wouldn't be THAT much of a jump between a 1st round rookie contract and what you'd sign the RFA to.

Worst case scenario, you sign the younger RFA to an offer sheet and his team matches the offer and you are no worse off than you were before and still have your draft pick.

If those are "mid-level tenders," then what in heaven's name is a "high-level tender"?

If Gaithers got beat out by last year's #23 pick, and we have the #23 pick in this year's draft, which is said to be much deeper at OT, then I think I'd take the crapshoot over the proven guy with attitude problems, and try like hell to resign Clifton.

Non--

A high level tender is a first and a third.

British gave the breakdown earlier in the thread

There are multiple 'mid level' tenders.
High - 1st and 3rd.
Mid - 1st.
Mid - 2nd.
Low - Where drafted.

Oher fell to 23. He looked like a sure thing, and it turns out that looks are not deceiving, in his case. I believe the overwhelming sentiment in Baltimore last year was something along the lines of a GD MIRACLE that he fell to them, and if anything, they would call that an understatement in retrospect.

It doesn't look like anything close to that is happening this year.

Gaithers didn't get beat out by Oher. He got hurt.

That "much deeper at OT" applies until you start looking at the totality of the situation, and apply it to the Left tackle position.

Okung, Bulaga, Williams, Campbell, Davis and Brown.

All projected to be gone.

Rodger Saffold is climbing in the perspective department, but he would be a major reach at 23. He will probably go in the 2nd round, but that's a reach also.

A few throw Lupati in as a LT- He isn't imo, he's a guard, a great one, potentially, but go ahead and throw him in anyway....

Because he will be gone, too.

I have 90 offensive tackles on my big board.

You have just read the options, by name...not by broad generalization...imo

I'm sure open to someone selling a better option, including any name not mentioned in this post, but from what I see- if we could work the deal, this is by far and away the best one...

This guy is mentioned as the best o-lineman on a very good offensive line, along with being repeatedly mentioned as all pro potential. He is NOT chopped liver or something. He can play Left tackle. Call him the LT equivalent of a paper trained puppy, something we failed to do in Green Bay.

He's proven he can play in this league. He's faced the Steelers D and a revamped Bengals D (Antwan Odom) twice a year.

He's the guy we target, IMO. If I recall correctly, he had some legal issues and was picked in the supplemental draft a couple years ago.

I would offer to swap our first with their second and see if they bite. If not, I have no problem giving up a first for a young, PROVEN LT. We could always keep Cliffy as a mentor/backup.

LT: Gaither
LG: Spitz
C: Wells
RG: Sitton
RT: Lang

Now that's a nasty o-line.

Then we also have two 2nd round picks to grab an explosive return man and a developmental corner or SS. We could then grab an OLB (like Koa Misa) and some center/safety prospects.

I'd be pumped with that draft.
