The Green Bay Packers have announced the issuance of a variety of qualifying offers.

Eight restricted free agents will receive a one-year deal, including safety Atari Bigby, cornerback Will Blackmon, guard Daryn Colledge, safety Nick Collins, defensive end Johnny Jolly, fullback John Kuhn, offensive lineman Jason Spitz, and cornerback Tramon Williams.

The team did not specify the levels of the offers.

The move leaves running back DeShawn Wynn eligible to depart.

The Packers also have announced that tight end Spencer Havner has been issued a one-year offer as an exclusive-rights free agent.

[Editor's note: I was moving too quickly earlier and made a couple of mistakes. Cornerback Derrick Martin has signed a new deal, so he's not leaving. And I missed Kuhn's name on the list of tendered restricted free agents.]

Thursday is the deadline for extending qualifying offers to restricted free agents.

So why in the hell are so many of them being applied today?

On the surface, it's likely meaningless. But in this time of labor turmoil between the NFL and the players' union, everything has meaning. And we wouldn't be surprised to learn that teams are applying the tender offers now to give the players a little extra time to storm the NFLPA castle.

If so, Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman has secured dibs on, you guessed it, turning the "lights out."
