Former Longhorn Jermichael Finley caught 55 passes for the Green Bay Packers last year and emerged as one of quarterback Aaron Rogers favorite targets. This offseason he decided to try boxing a way to improve his game.
Finley, who became the first University of Texas football player to ever leave after his sophomore year, has returned to Austin to begin his boxing training.
It ain't no football, it's different, Finley explained. It's a whole different ballgame you get into the ring. It's like getting your wind up and your hand speed down. And more core work. So you can take them shots to the body and getting the DB's off of you." Finley said he plans on using boxing as part of his training for the rest of his NFL career.
"Footwork is the main key, Finley said of his training. Then hand speed, and just like I said, the body shots that you take and sometimes to the head shots you take. Doing the little neck exercise they got. It's just a great thing."
