From PFT.COM :

The questions started soon after the Packers signed linebacker Brandon Chillar to a long-term contract. Could A.J. Hawk, no longer a three-down player, be on the way out?

The answer for 2010 will be no according to Hawk's agent.

"They're not going to ask [for a pay cut]," Mike McCartney told the Green Bay Press-Gazette Monday. "They think A.J. is a very important part of their football team. I have full confidence that A.J. is going to have a big year next year, and I think they have the same kind of confidence."

Hawk is due $4.6 million next season, and he often sits on passing downs for Chillar. The team also have a promising backup in Desmond Bishop.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel believes Hawk could lose his starting job, but NFL teams rarely give up players that can help them win. Hawk is still a solid player for them, if overpaid.

So while the Packers expected Hawk to provide more than quality depth, it looks like he'll remain in Green Bay for at least one more season.

What do you guys think about a Kampman + Hawk + 4th round pick for Peppers and first round pick of Carolina?

We grab ourselves an outstanding DE + get a 1st rounder.

Losing Kampman no biggie we didn't even had him pretty much the whole year and Hawk ... just underachieved.

I do know it's not as easy as it seems but do you guys think Ted Thompson will be working on the phones coming trade deadline?

If there we're a possibility of a trade like this or similar who would you guys want in return?

The only way Carolina could trade Peppers if they franchise him again for next year at 20 million and try to trade him. He'd have to rework a new long term deal with the prospective team he'd be traded too and that is going to be a pretty pricey deal a lot of teams might not want to pay. Carolina probably isn't going to risk it regardless because they don't want to be stuck paying him that much on a one year deal like they did last season.

Turning that same coin, the only way we could conceivably trade Kampman is by franchising him too, which is a very risky venture considering his current injury situation. The franchise tag is probably better served on someone like Pickett in case they can't get a long-term deal done with him. If they'd use any kind of tag on Kampman, it'd probably be a transition tag where they'd have the first right to match any offer he received in free agency and could let him walk with no compensation if they felt the deal was to much to pay him like he would probably anyways if he'd hit the open market as an UFA.

I think there is a chance we could trade Hawk, but even despite his downsides, he's still a pretty good locker room presence and fan favorite. He probably sticks around for '10 with the rest of our very expensive MLB corps.

as RainX said, both Kampman and Peppers are free agents. A trade that includes both of them is very highly unlikely, as it would include tagging, signing, then trading each of them. I think the both walk as free agents. And I think Hawk is back next year. Basically, I echo everything RainX said.

That trade would never happen. Carolina would reject it and if they franchise Peppers, I think they may end up keeping him.

Smart move on Hawk. He's still fairly solid. His expectations make him take on criticism that is sometimes exaggerated. He needs to improve, but he doesn't need to go IMO.
